LEGO Star Wars Golden Brickies Awards / / ©2014-2017 franklando My LEGO Star Wars Golden Brickie Award for Best Picture, along with my nominations for Best Set Build and Overall Winner at the LEGO Star Wars Golden Brickies Awards 2014. In September LEGO Star Wars announced its first ever ‘Oscar-style’ awards for the best fan created content: The Golden Brickies Awards. LEGO invited fans across the UK to submit photos and videos to celebrate the best fan created content from Jedi Builders, Photographers and Film Makers. The competition was held across the LEGO Star Wars social media sites and culminated in an exclusive red carpet LEGO Star Wars event and ceremony at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort Hotel on Saturday 11th October 2014. The LEGO Star Wars Golden Brickies Award categories are: Best Picture - Create a LEGO Star Wars inspired photograph using your collection Best Movie - Create a LEGO Star Wars mini movie or alternate movie ending Best Set Build - Create a LEGO Star Wars inspired build Overall Winner - for best LEGO Star Wars content creation The Golden Brickies Awards were judged by an expert panel including

: Warwick Davis (Return of the Jedi, Harry Potter, Willow), Lucy Fisher (LEGO), Milun Simpson aged 5 (LEGO Star Wars biggest fan competition winner), and James Burns (Jedi News). The prizes included: an invitation to the red carpet awards ceremony at LEGOLAND Windsor, a chance to meet Star Wars actor Warwick Davis, a years supply of LEGO Star Wars goodies, and a bespoke C-3PO Golden Brickie Award made especially for the awards by the LEGO Star Wars design team. The week before the awards I was contacted by LEGO to inform me that I had been nominated in 3 out of the 4 categories: Best Picture, Best Set Build and Overall Winner, and invited me to attend the red carpet awards event at LEGOLAND… which was truly awesome! The whole event was LEGO Star Wars themed: featuring life-size LEGO Star Wars sculptures, Stormtroopers, Biker Scouts, a Leia and an Obi-Wan from the 501st UK Garrison, many of the families attended cosplaying various Star Wars characters and one guest even created an awesome Stormtrooper iphone cover made entirely from LEGO bricks.

The awards ceremony itself was loads of fun… hosted by the amazing Mark Campbell (LEGO Master Builder), and the Golden Brickies judges; Warwick, Lucy, Milun and James. To get things started everybody at the ceremony (including the judges) took part in a Microfighter speed build - all the guests frantically building their sets against the clock to win LEGO Star Wars prizes. I came 2nd with my Clone Turbo Tank and won a 2014 LEGO Star Wars advent calendar = Yay! Next up were the awards themselves… and the winners are: Best Picture – Guy Frankland Best Movie – Tim Sutcliffe with sons Evan and George Best Set Build – Nick Sweetman Overall Winner – Daniel Jamieson with girlfriend Vicki Smith The Golden Brickie Award for Best Picture was announced first - so on top of the massive honour of being recognised by LEGO Star Wars for my 15 years of dedicated geekyness, I also have the distinction of being the first person ever to receive a LEGO Star Wars Golden Brickie Award! It really is amazing to get acknowledged for something like this, especially when that something is the one thing you love most in the world.

I’m really glad I got my award out of the way first, even though I’m 42 years old, I was super excited and really, really nervous (as much as I can ever remember being), so it freed me up to just relax and enjoy the rest of the awards ceremony. The whole competition and event were a huge success for LEGO… it would be fantastic to see the Golden Brickies Awards continue and extend to other countries so LEGO Star Wars fans across the globe can continue to celebrate the two greatest toy brands in the galaxy! Congratulations to all the other well-deserved winners; Tim, Nick and Daniel, and thank you to everybody at LEGO, Norton & Co, the judges and the other guests for making it one of the most memorable and Star Wars-y days of my life. And if you’re reading this, a big thank goes to you too – I wouldn’t have had the confidence to continue photographing my LEGO Star Wars collection, or to submit my photos to LEGO without the amazing support and lovely comments I get here on deviantART.

/watch?v=XQzzqe… deviantART’s dedicated Lego Star Wars group… Are you itching to add your voice to the Star Wars chorus? You can do so in a visual way by participating in Star Wars Fan Film Awards. The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams kicked off the start of 2016’s fan film contest with a special message and a call for entries (as you can see in the video above). The competition is open to a variety of categories—comedy, drama, non-fiction, you name it. But remember, this is Star Wars, so I probably wouldn’t go for something in the Deadpool range (though, leaning towards a darker story would be fine). The winners of the Fan Film Awards will be announced at a ceremony at Star Wars Celebration 2016 this July; the convention is taking place in London. Winners receive glory, fame, and most importantly, a Star Wars Prize Pack. The Prize Pack will included merchandise, limited edition concept art, and a trophy. Top honors will be given in the following seven categories: Filmmaker Select, Best Animation, Best Non-Fiction, Spirit of Fandom, Best Comedy, Best Visual Effects, and Audience Choice.

You have until April 24 to get your submissions in before you wait, until the end of June, to find out whether your creation made the cut. Don’t worry about how to pass the time; you can just watch The Force Awakens over and over again. Are you planning to participate in the Star Wars Fan Film Awards?
