Lego The Hobbit video game due out next year UPDATE: Due in spring, but will only feature first two films. UPDATE: Warner Bros. has confirmed Lego: The Hobbit for a spring 2014 release on 3DS, Mac, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. But unlike other Lego releases, the game will only include action from two films out of a trilogy - Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the upcoming Desolation of Smaug. Jackson has squeezed a third film out of the book too - The Hobbit: There and Back Again, which is due to be released in cinemas in November 2014. Presumably this will in turn be covered by another Lego Hobbit game. ORIGINAL STORY: A Lego The Hobbit video game will launch in 2014, leaked promo art has suggested. Hobbit-themed Lego sets due to launch next year include the artwork on the back of instruction booklets, Lego fan site TheBrickFan reports. 3DS, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions appear to be in the works.

"Coming sortie prvue en 2014," the artwork states. "Coming out in 2014." Lego versions of Bilbo, Thorin and Gandalf are shown. The third and final Hobbit film is due to be released on 17th December 2014, which makes an end-of-year launch likely. Warner Bros. declined to comment when approached by Eurogamer, but we may hear more at the VGX Awards next month. Lego Lord of the Rings launched last autumn to high praise. It included an open world version of Middle Earth to roam around in, and a playable Tom Bombadil. There’s definitely an Xzibit Yo Dawg meme in there somewhere. Wrapped in humor and coated with Lego’s entertaining brand of gameplay, The Lego Movie Videogame is a fun-filled extension of its cinematic counterpart.

The game — just like the movie — follows the story of Emmet Brickowski, an ordinary construction worker who wants nothing more in life than following the instructions and simply fitting in with his peers. He gets thrusted into an extraordinary situation when he falls down a hole and is named the “special,” the one who will save the Lego world. March 26, 2014, 1:30 pm Lego Legends of Chima buries fun, flexible gameplay under a host of issues (review) With Lego Legends of Chima Online, players journey across the world exploring jungles, caverns and more. And it doesn’t stop once the computer’s turned off. With the Cross-Play feature, Chima Online allows gamers to hop off the PC or Mac and resume play on their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. But while Cross-Play delivers a seamless transition from platform to platform, it’s not enough to overcome the game’s numerous shortcomings. Understanding that the game is targeted at a younger audience and uses a free-to-play system, Chima Online is still clichèd in almost every aspect.

The game fails to break away from the routine characteristics of most Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games. From the start, players are thrust into a world of fetch-quests and button-mashing without really understanding why. All they know is that they’re commanders in an inter-species army of eagles, bears, lions and gorillas that stand unified against the crocodiles. March 19, 2014, 4:14 pm Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare a flawed but fun experience (review) Zombies have invaded Crazy Dave’s garden. They’ve laid waste to the lawn, pillaged the patio and nearly uprooted all the plants. The only thing that can save the garden from utter destruction is the tactical cuke. This is Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. Building on the popular mobile, PC and console game, plants and zombies have taken their hilarious, never-ending struggle to a new genre: the shooter. Available now for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One and coming soon to the PC, Bejeweled creators PopCap Games deliver a respectable class-based, third-person, shooter that offers a fun time with a dollop of ridiculousness.

November 6, 2013, 3:34 pm Minecraft meets “The Hunger Games” at Anythink Libraries Minecraft’s increasing hold on popular culture is evident everywhere you look, from the stunning(ly insane) Minecraft recreations of “Game of Thrones” locales to its developers appearing on late night talk shows, as creator Notch will do tomorrow night on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.”

Locally, Thornton’s innovative Anythink Libraries will use the virtual building-blocks game to host a networked Minecraft competition on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in which tween and teens are encouraged to break up into “Hunger Games” districts to create virtual worlds. Anythink, it should be noted, is one of the first libraries in the country to maintain its own dedicated Minecraft server (via MCGamer) and has installed the game on all of its PCs district-wide. July 12, 2013, 4:00 pm Legends of Chima: Laval’s Journey review: a fun smash’em up for kids [media-credit name=”Lego” align=”alignnone” width=”495″] If you’re a Lego fan and enjoy all of the 3-D games they produce, then you are in for a treat. Lego Legends of Chima: Laval’s Journey is an enjoyable game filled with obstacles, story plots, and destroying opponents. The game is based off a cartoon called “Legends of Chima,” which is a land of paradise that has become a battleground to control to natural resource element called “Chi.” The characters are part of animal tribes varying everything including lions, crocodiles, eagles, wolves, gorilla, rhinos and bears.

The plot in the game is rather caking but the platform is enjoyable to play and easy to navigate. July 12, 2013, 11:47 am Lego Batman 2 review: witty humor, fun gameplay Lego games are always enjoyable to play. I haven’t had a bad moment playing the games because most of the time there is always some fun, witty plot and jokes packed inside each one. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is no different. The game pulls from the epic story of Batman and meshes it into world of Lego bricks. The Wii U version reviewed here is the exact version same that was recently released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game does not utilize the game pad on the Wii U; however, it is still enjoyable to play and hasn’t lost its luster. Anythink Wright Farms to host video game design workshop on March 9 [media-credit name=”Sesame Workshop” align=”alignnone” width=”495″] Learning with video games? Teens have an opportunity to explore how games are made this weekend. Anythink Wright Farms will be hosting a video game design workshop for middle and high school students from 1-4 p.m. March 9. “These kids may spend a lot of time playing video games,” said Stacie Ledden, spokeswoman for the Rangeview Library District, “but this gives them an opportunity to learn how they’re built.” Using the Gamestar Mechanic software, the workshop will teach students about the process of designing video games. Space for the workshop is limited, Ledden said. There are 24 slots available. Students who participate in the workshop will be encouraged to submit their creations to the National STEM Video Game Challenge. The winners of the competition will receive $2,000 for their school or nonprofit, and a laptop.
