LEGO has unveiled a first look at two new sets based on the upcoming “LEGO Batman Movie.” On display at Comic-Con International in San Diego, the LEGO Batmobile set features not only the souped-up vehicle but also minifigures of Batman, Robin, Man-Bat and the Kabuki Twins. The 581-piece set will retail for $59.99. The second set, called Joker Notorious Lowrider, includes the Clown Prince of Crime with his vehicle (with bouncing suspension), as well as Batgirl and Harley Quinn minifigures. That 433-piece set will be priced at $49.99. Both will arrive in stores later this year, well ahead of the Feb. 10 release of “The LEGO Batman Movie.” The hottest deals voted on by our community. Selected and verified by our team of deal editors. In its latest meta moment, LEGO has released a first look at the LEGO Batmobile and The Joker’s Notorious Lowrider sets from the LEGO Batman Movie. Inspired by the film, the first set depicts LEGO Batman’s race through Gotham City in pursuit of Man-Bat and the Kabuki Twins in the Batmobile.
The set includes the Batmobile with dual cockpit for Batman and Robin, two stud shooters and multidirectional wheels for three different modes — race mode, monster truck mode, and parallel-parking mode. The set, which features 581 pieces, will retail for $59.99. The Joker’s Notorious Lowrider set depicts Batgirl’s pursuit of The Joker and Harley Quinn through the streets of Gotham City. The lowrider features bouncing suspension, handles for Harley to hang onto, and hidden double spring-loaded shooters (activated by pushing the buttons behind the stereo.) The set, which features 433 pieces, will retail for $49.99. Both sets will be on display at the LEGO booth at Comic-Con. They’ll go on sale later this year. It contains 68 pieces but there’s no word on pricing but I assume it could be $3.99 each.
This Batmobile is the miniature version of the 70905 set that is already available in stores. The base of the vehicle is a 2×4 Technic plate with pins that is oriented lengthwise. The ends uses a couple of 1×2 Technic bricks with half beam holes that are held in place with some plates. The front uses a Batarang for the ornament while it uses a black shield piece for the canopy top and a droid head for the exhaust. The wings on the sides can fold down on the hinges but nothing too spectacular. The Mini Batmobile can also change to the monster truck mode but it requires you to take off the 1×2 Technic beam and reorient it vertically. Overall, The LEGO Batman Movie The Mini Batmobile (30521) polybag isn’t too bad of a set considering that miniature models of larger sets do not translate as well. If you’re a collector of polybags, I think this one is a good one to pick up when it is available. Again, there’s no word yet on where or when that is at this time.
