With the release of the new LEGO® Batman film, the LEGO group launches new sets based on the DC characters. On this occasion, we bring you the review of set 70912 Arkham Asylum. Prior to this edition, LEGO already released two sets related to Arkham Asylum: set 7785 (2006) consisting of 838 pieces and 7 minifigs, and set 10937 (2012) with 1584 pieces and 8 minifigs. The new set 70912 consists of 1628 pieces and 12 minifigs. When opening the box we find bags numbered 1 to 8, an instruction booklet and a sheet of stickers. The set consists of a central building, two wings that go out on each side of the main building, a watchtower and a police car. The set contains 12 minifigs: Batman, Robin, Barbara Gordon, Aaron Cash, Dr. Harleen Quinzel, The Joker, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, Catwoman, The Riddler and two Gotham police officers. Batman: Black suit, with printed pectorals and abs, yellow belt and black cape. The head is printed on both sides. Robin: The classic red-green suit and yellow cape, with Robin's "R" printed on the chest.

The mask is connected to the hairpiece. Barbara Gordon: She wears a waistcoat, a gun belt with pistol holder, and a serigraphed official badge on the left leg. She has long dark red hair and the head is printed on both sides. Aaron Cash: Arkham's oldest asylum guard wears a white shirt with pockets and a printed ID card, white trousers and a hook at the end of the left arm, a result of a showdown with Killer Croc. On the back of the torso “Arkham Asylum” has been printed. The hair is black. Dr. Harleen Quinzel: Before becoming Harley Quinn, Dr. Harleen Quinzel wears a white coat, checkered jersey, a red silk-screen scarf and we see a pen coming out of her right pocket. She has blond hair and the head is printed on both sides. The Joker: An orange Asylum Inmate Costume with Arkham letters on the back. Green hair and the head is printed on both sides. Poison Ivy: An orange Asylum Inmate Costume with Arkham letters on the back. Dark green hands, long dark red hair, with a white flower on the left side and green printed leaves.

Two-Face: An orange Asylum Inmate Costume with Arkham letters on the back. The head shows the two faces, as does the hair: one half is black and the other magenta. Catwoman: An orange Asylum Inmate Costume with Arkham letters on the back. An orange belt and purple mask. The Riddler: An orange Asylum Inmate Costume with Arkham letters on the back. The right hand is dark tan and the left hand is light purple. The hat is part of the hair piece and has a question mark printed on it. Female police officer: dark blue shirt with plaque and printed radio. On the back the initials GCPD (Gotham City Police Department) and the cable of the radio are printed. The hands and pants are black. The hair is dark tan. Male police officer: dark blue shirt with plaque and printed radio. Police cap with printed police badge. The first thing we build is the police car. We start by building the chassis and the interior. The first stickers go on the white doors and we continue to build the front grille and then the trunk, which will be functional since we can open and close it.

Inside the trunk is a small space to accommodate a radio and handcuffs. The end result is a nice car of medium blue and white color. We can say that it is almost identical to the pink car of the set 71006 The Simpsons House. The only difference, aside from the color, is the roof, the fenders and a few details. Once the car is assembled, we proceed to the construction of the main building. On the outside of the entrance there is a gray minifig that will represent a statue with a snake in the left hand. The building has a large door, with the inscription Arkham Asylum at the top, leading to a corridor where there is an X-ray security machine. On the top floor of the building we find a computer to control the security cameras and a safe. There is a door that provides an exit to a small terrace. The completed building is brown and gray with a black roof covered with snow and a round dome. The next step is the right wing assembly. This building has two cells with glass doors and a security mechanism for opening doors.

On the ground floor there is a laundry with two washing machines and on the top floor there is a small laboratory with a computer, glass jars and a small refrigerator to store medical material. We proceed with the assembly of the left wing. Like the other wing, it also has two cells with glass doors and a security mechanism for opening doors. On the ground floor we set up a cafeteria bar with different foods, trays and dishes. On the upper floor is the living room, with glass wall and intercoms to communicate. Despite the fact that this set has more parts than its predecessors, the final result is not entirely satisfactory. The aesthetic are similar to the set 10937 from the year 2012, with the windows, although in the current set the brown color is more predominant. We want to highlight the blue police car — until now we had armored vans — the statue of the entrance to the building, the X-ray security machine, the cafeteria bar with all its accessories and food and the small laundry room with the washing machines.

Another plus point is the number of minifigs, 12 in total, counting heroes, supervillains and security agents. Now we just have to enjoy the new movie and see in what scenes we find the revised set. We would like to thank LEGO® for providing the set for review. However, LEGO does not approve nor endorse the opinions we publish in our reviews.Look at those tiny, buzzsaw-armed penguins and tell me this is not the greatest Lego set you’ve ever seen. Lego has taken to social media to reveal three of the new Lego Batman Movie sets that will accompany the release of the movie early next year. They’re not the first we’ve seen from the movie’s line of planned sets, but they’re a lot of fun. Although no price details for the sets have been confirmed yet, it’s easy to tell through size and number of minifigures alone which will be the cheapest and which is the priciest—first up is a smaller set featuring Batman, Mr. Freeze in a giant mech, and another minifigure (he appears to be some kind of security guard, but it’s unconfirmed)
