In 1972, a Scandinavian company named Stokke put its unique mark on the high chair market. Rather than making plastic chairs that kept babies at a distance from the table, this company created a wooden high chair that allowed babies of all ages to join their families at the table. This chair is known as the Tripp Trapp high chair, and it remains a well-known high chair among parents worldwide. Tripp Trapp wooden high chairs come with simple harness systems that securely hold children in place, but they do not have the plastic trays seen on most modern high chairs. The idea is to scoot children up to the table with the grownups. The chairs easily fold up and are easy to transport around the house or between locations. Tripp Trapp chairs are made entirely from wood and are not sold with any type of cushioning. For added comfort and support, parents can purchase seat cushions designed specifically for this high chair. Stokke Tripp Trapp seat cushions are designed to fit over the wooden seat and over the front harness, going up the child's back for complete comfort.
These cushions also create more stability for younger babies who aren't ready to balance on their own in a wooden high chair. The following steps make it simple to install Stokke chair cushions on modern Tripp Trapp high chairs. Most cushions will not fit the original chair but are compatible with later releases. This is the cushion designed to cover the wood panel that serves as the child's seat. With the seat securely positioned at the desired height to fit the child, stretch the corners of the cushion over the edges of the seat. This is similar to pulling the edges of a fitted sheet over a mattress and should only take a minute. The harness is unlatched during this process, allowing easy access to the seat panel. Once the corners of the seat cushion are secured over the edges of the seat, pull the crotch latch for the harness upwards through the hole on the bottom side of the cushion. This allows the child to sit on the cushion while the crotch latch easily pulls between the child's legs.
The Stokke Baby Set comes with a plastic seat back that is designed to sit behind the baby for added support. Position this piece onto the back of the high chair by aligning the groove along the bottom of the seat back with the harness connection at the back of the chair. The groove is shaped like the harness piece, and the plastic seat back easily slides into place behind the harness piece. Small hooks built into the back of the seat back go over the back of the wooden high chair, and the back is pushed down until it snaps into place. The second piece of the Stokke baby seat cushion is designed to fit over the plastic seat back already installed on the chair. The first step is to pull each side strap of the harness through one of the holes on the seat back cushion. This piece has a built-in plastic hook on each side, and those hooks connect to the back of the wooden high chair.
