In need of some beautification and pampering? Here are some English-speaking salons where you can give your eyebrows and nails some tender, loving care: A hair removal practice that’s said to have originated in India, threading is said to define the eyebrows more precisely, as it involves a thread being twisted and rolled to pluck hair from the follicle, leaving a neater, long-lasting shape. It can also remove smaller hairs that waxing cannot, and is safer and less painful for those with sensitive skin. As the name suggests, this is a nail salon and spa, but it stands out for its threading services, which are done by a Pakistani professional with over 20 years of experience. A 10-15 minute service costs 3,090 yen, but there are also other options, such as the 6,000-yen VIP course, which includes counseling and consultation about eyebrow shape, as well as a 7,725-yen package that includes a 45-minute facial. And since this is a nail salon, be sure to avail of their manicure and pedicure services as well, with prices starting at 3,780 yen for a manicure, and 4,100 yen for a pedicure.

Some might resolve to spend more time with family this year, or build up their endurance to run a half marathon, or even start a blog. Whatever your resolutions might be, you’ll want to bring awareness to how you are feeling, and make an effort to take care of yourself so that you can reach those goals. Yes, this does mean you can book a facial or massage, or both. I recently attended 4 Angels Beauty Care‘s New Year party, where they showcased their space and affordable services. Refreshments and entertainment were provided, and complimentary henna and eyebrow consultation and shaping were offered that evening. Located in the West End, 4 Angels has been open since last summer. They offer a variety of services including eyebrow threading, facials, massages, and waxing. They even provide traditional Henna and Sari-wrapping services for bridal parties. The space is modestly decorated with dark brown furniture, with turquoise walls that brighten up the atmosphere.  Three reclining hairdresser chairs occupy the open area, and additional private rooms are situated in the back for body massage appointments.

Using only France Laure skincare products, co-owners Kiran Sokhi and Kulwinder Malhi are focused on delivering only the best results for your skin. They stand behind this line because it contains a bounty of botanical products, marine elements, and mineral sources that are great for the skin. Before the event, I had the opportunity to experience an Illu-mini Facial and Indian Head Massage. It was great timing as I had just returned from a ski trip in Washington. I was offered something to drink and then invited to sit in one of their comfortable reclining chairs. My appointment started off with the facial, in which my face was cleansed, exfoliated, and then treated with a masque. It was followed by a hot towel to remove the masque, a serum application, and a massage. For someone with sensitive skin, I am cautious about using products that contain too many chemicals that may potentially irritate my skin. Although the products were scented, they were gentle enough for my face. The fragrances of the products were refreshing, as they were either floral or citrus scented.

I later found out that the toner is alcohol-free, which is great because products with alcohol tend to dry out your skin even more. I’ve used an exfoliant similar to the one they use, where you apply wet and allow to dry, then start to gently rub the masque off. I stopped using the one I bought simply because its fragrance was too strong. This product would be a great alternative, although I don’t think it’s available for sale. After my facial, I remained in my chair and received the Indian Head Massage treatment. Somewhere along the way, I fell asleep, and I woke up to two smiling ladies who asked if I had enjoyed everything. Aside from feeling slightly embarrassed,  I felt surprisingly refreshed afterwards. That night, I slept well and even woke up the next morning without hitting the snooze button like I usually do. I would totally recommend this treatment to those who are looking to improve their mental alertness, blood circulation, and treat their insomnia. Oh, and not to mention your hair will get a fabulous shine from the natural oils.
