When ever we fancy some fresh air but not going to phone this place is perfect. It takes about 20 minutes to walk all the way around and you see something different every time you go. There is a wide range of birdlife and lots of people walk their dogs there. Parking is easy and the walk itself is relatively... It's a nice walk in an urban area with a good range of birds and plants. Nice to go in the winter when frosty as the frost on the grasses and reeds is lovely “Great for a 30min stroll” “Perfect for a brisk walk” You can access it by car, bus or just walk.

It's a really pleasant stroll around taking in the sights, wildlife and the people. The only problem that some of the dog walkers are not as careful as they should be. Local lodge area with lots of wild life. Cafe on route and also pub. Well liked by dog walkers. Can be muddy if it rains. I love walking round the lodge it holds great memories for me as I grew up over looking the lodge. it hasn't changed much just a natural nature reserve Hidden away great walk very peaceful and good wildlife around,go when I can with my son he enjoys it as well feeding birds This is a lovely place for a gentle stroll, Doffcocker Lodge is easily accessible from Chorley Old Road. The Lodge is a delight at all times of the year but particularly in the Spring when you are very likely to see baby ducks and geese wandering across the pathways. The walk is level and is easily negotiated with prams/pushchairs. It takes about 20mins to walk around and you will be rewarded with lovely views across the water.

Little gem of a walk especially in summer when the trails dry out a bit. Dog loves it as well. Good for birds but not qualified to say much more than that! Flat walk around lodge, lots of birds to see and feed. Wonderful place to spend an hour or so. Good parking off main road. Need to watch out for Greece as they can be a little too friendly. Bump and babes is the perfect place for the best prams, pushchairs and strollers to choose from, with a wide range of all leading brands.Strid Wood and the Strid This ancient woodland is one of the most visited in the Yorkshire Dales Strid Wood, one of the largest remnants of sessile oak trees in the Yorkshire Dales hugs the banks of the river Wharfe and invites visitors to walk its shaded paths. Renowned for the flora and fauna, bluebells flower in late April and early May, followed by wild garlic in bloom. This majestic wood is home to a myriad of wildlife including roe deer, otters, kingfisher and greater spotted woodpecker.

In 1810 the 6th Duke of Devonshire and the Rev. William Carr opened Strid Wood and invited the public to walk the paths they created. Enjoy the views from the carefully placed seats along the nature trails. The colour coded walks through Strid Wood follow surfaced paths to lead you to your destination. The green trail from the Cavendish Pavilion to the Strid on the west bank of river is pushchair and wheelchair friendly. Be sure not to miss the Strid, a natural wonder, where the river suddenly narrows forcing the water through at great pressure. The Strid was formed by the wearing of softer rock by the circular motion of small stones in hollows. The Strid is positioned in the heart of Strid Wood. Depending on how far you wish to walk the Strid can be accessed from all three estate car parks. Please see link to plan your walk. Please note the Strid is very dangerous and lives have been lost. Please take note of the signs in this area and stay well back from the edge.

Share with Bolton AbbeyFollowing the success from last year's Santa Fun Run and our incredible Colour Run in August, Herriot Hospice Homecare will be hosting various Santa Fun Run's throughout the Hambleton and Richmondshire Districts leading up to Christmas. Tickets are £15 for ages 13 and above, and £7 for ages 12 and below. For your Registration Form, Click Here  Please bring this with you on the day. For your Sponsorship Form, Click Here. Please bring funds and the form with you on the day. Your ticket includes entry on to the site, 1 FREE Santa suit and a medal for when you cross the finish line. You can choose to come in other Christmas themed dress, at no additional cost, should you wish. Hot and soft drinks will be available to purchase before and after the race as well. Both races will start from the Hall (6.5km first followed by the 3.6km shortly after), which is just off Wensley House in Wensley Village. The concrete track will take you past Middle Lodge and up to Bolton Hall on your right.

There will be car parking here available from 9am until 1pm. Bolton Estate comprises 2 courses, a shorter and longer route, please see details below. The smaller course is approximatly 3.6km which is around 2.2 miles. It is on a mix of flat pavement and grass and the majority of the terrain is flat. This course is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs (jogger prams or mountain buggies advised), however please take into concideration of the weather in December as we expect a lot of mud. The longer route is 6.5km which is about 4 miles. This route takes you alongside the River Ure and offers spectacular views of Pen Hill and the Wensleydale Moors. This route is through West Wood, through the trees and tracks and ends back at the Hall. This route is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushcahirs as this is a hilly route, with natural hurdles such as tree routes and branches and we recommend an adult is running with anyone under the ages of 16. This route is expected to get quite messy in December and you WILL get muddy so please think about bringing a change of clothing and shoes with you.

Do I need to be a Runner to do The Santa Fun Run?

6.5km equals to 4 miles which on average is a medium to long dog walk. On average it takes a healthy adult 20 minutes to walk 1 miles, so we are estimating 1 hour and 10 minutes to walk the 4 miles, and around 40 - 50 minutes to run. Is the Santa Fun timed? The Santa Fun Run at Bolton Hall is not a timed event. If you wish to time it yourself and would like to achieve a personal best for yourself, we suggest you head to the start line first and be a part of the first stage of runners. Can I take photos and videos at the event? We urge you take as many photos and videos as you can throughout the event and tag Herriot Hospice Homecare in on all social media platforms! Photos must be used for personal use only. We have a photographer coming on the day too, where you will be able to purchase professional shots of the day after the event. A donation will be made to charity with every purchase made! Do I have to raise sponsorship at this event? No, not if you don’t want to.

The outgoing cost to run this event is extremely large for such a small charity like ourselves. After a recent restructure, where we have had to cease our End of Life care we are determined to raise as much money as we can and push to give our patients and their carers thecare and assistance they need and deserve. Unfortunately sponsorship for other charities cannot be offered at this event. Can I bring my dog? Yes, dogs are welcomed in grounds and on the runs. Please be understanding that children will be there, so if your dog doesnt like children or other dogs, please re concider bringing it. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times and extendable leads are acceptable. Will water be available?Water will not be available during the course, however you can buy bottles of water pre and post race for £1. We advise you take a bottle on the run/walk with you to have as and when you need it. There will be bins at the Hall for you to dispose of your empty bottles – please do not litter.
