While they had fiddled with the idea dating back to 2007, it wasn’t until five years later when they decided to take themselves seriously and launch the company that would eventually become Greats.Babenzein and Buscemi both approached Greats with a bevy of industry experience. Babenzein had previously served as a Global Director for both Puma and K-Swiss. Buscemi took a more unique route, giving up his career on Wall Street to pursue a career in the sneaker industry. After years of collecting, he was hired by DC Shoe brand to work on special projects, eventually becoming the Creative Director of Lotto. In 2006, in fact, Buscemi launched his own sneaker brand, Gourmet. He has since launched a self-titled high class sneaker brand as well, with Greats filling out the rolodex. Greats, however, diverges from both Babenzein and Buscemi’s previous experiences in terms of goals.Unlike other sneaker brands, Greats based their model on eyewear upstart Warby Parker, aiming to, as they put it, “reinterpret the classics with upscale, luxe details at a price point that can’t be beat.”

Greats has continued to produce sneakers across numerous price-points, selling both high-level, Italian-made leather kicks, as well as simpler, cheaper running shoe models. Born in Brooklyn, as they define themselves, Greats has built a vertical men’s footwear brand in which the consumer is sold high quality kicks at reasonable prices.Athough Buscemi is no longer a member of the Greats team, the brand itself, lead by Babenzien, has taken off since 2013. Most of their models sold out in the first 90 days they were available. Forbes, in 2013, deemed them “The Next Great Footwear Company.” Shopify did a similar feature, praising them for their strategy, thereby aiming to explain “How New Ecommerce Shoe Company Greats Brand is Aiming to Become the Warby Parker of Footwear.” More recently this past May, FootwearNews detailed exactly “How Greats Brand Turned Social-Media Savvy Into Sneaker Sales.”I could write another 600 words simply listing their accolades. The main point is, however, that Greats has successfully deviated from the sneaker brand-orthodoxy in a way which others have repeatedly failed.

Greats has repeatedly collaborated with legendary retired-NFL running back Marshawn Lynch, launching the Beast Mode 1.0, 2.0, and this past Black Friday, the 3.0 Royale. More traditionally, they have worked with fashion legend Nick Wooster as well as well-known brand Lardini. They have recently become even bigger, announcing that certain kicks will now be available throughout Canadian Nordstrom stores.Greats Brand, as evidenced by its sales, media reception, and collaborations, has most certainly surpassed outside expectations. It’s fair to say, however, that this type of success is exactly what founders had in mind. While the world may be surprised, Ryan and the team are sitting back, watching the brand take off with a single collective thought — “we told you so.” enjoy cash reduction if your order reaches a certain For further infos, please feel free to consult our customer services. Those are for paupers.By Shari Gab Share This Jon Buscemi (no relation to actor Steve) makes shoes.Really, really spendy shoes. His most coveted design — the 100MM, made with premium materials and and heavy on the design flourishes — regularly runs for $890. But in celebration of the opening of his new flagship store in Manhattan, he decided to add a couple bells and whistles.Bells and whistles like: 11.5 carats of diamonds and Buscemi’s signature 18-karat-gold padlock set on tumbled white Italian leather. The sneaker is only available in-store at the Manhattan location ... for a mind-bending $132,000.The Buscemi team confirms that this is the most expensive leisure kick in circulation right now, and like us, you're probably now weighing a very difficult decision: Do you get a fully loaded Tesla Model X, or these?Decisions, decisions.via High SnobietyShare This #menswear #getaways #wheels #tablestakes Join Us.
