HOTTEST AUGUST: Blistering Spanish plume to spark UK heatwave scorcher to last till autumn BRITAIN is on alert for a MAJOR HEATWAVE to push thermometers close to the 100F mark by the start of next week. MeteoCielA plume of roasting air from Africa will bring the highest temperatures for a year and threatens to topple the all-time summer record.Forecasters predict a rapid warm up over the next five days with temperatures expected to hit a sizzling peak just after the weekend.Much of the UK faces a repeat of last month’s heatwave which saw the mercury push past the 33C (91F) mark in parts of the country. However this time round thermometers look poised to soar even higher with the 2003 record for the warmest ever temperature of 38.5C (101.3F) now under threat. The impending heatwave has sparked a raft of warnings to those heading out and about this weekend to take extra care on the roads.MeteoCielMotoring experts are urging people to pack bottled water and make sure cars are prepared for the extreme heat.

Roads start to soften at around 27C leading to cracks and ruts on tar surfaces while the temperature inside stationary cars can hit 60C (140F).RAC traffic watch spokesman Rod Dennis said: “After a cooler spell of weather, drivers are soon going to really start to feel the heat.“During the last mini heatwave, we saw breakdowns caused by problems with cooling systems jump by nearly a quarter.“Drivers need to make sure they keep their cool  – we’ve previously seen a rise in temperatures lead to a spike in accidents, perhaps caused by increased driver fatigue and frustration on congested roads.”MeteoCielAA president Edmund King added: “Take care not to accidentally – or deliberately even for a moment - leave people or pets alone in the car this summer, because anything can happen.“Remember too that if your car breaks down, your air conditioning won’t work either so make sure you have plenty of drinking water in the car, especially if you have young or elderly family members with you.”

The Met Office said things will start to warm up dramatically from Thursday as a swathe of hot air sweeps in from the Continent.By the weekend southern parts of Britain will be sweltering in temperatures in the high 20Cs with 32C (90F) likely by Tuesday.Although the north will be slightly cooler the mercury could nudge 28C (82F) even in the far reaches of Scotland.Deputy chief operational meteorologist Laura Paterson said: “An area of low pressure looks likely to drag air up from the south across the UK.“Despite being a week ahead, temperatures of 30C to 32C look more likely than not across some southern parts of the UK on Monday and Tuesday and there is a chance that even northern parts of the UK could see temperatures into the high 20Cs.”Piers Corbyn, forecaster for WeatherAction, said Britain will bake in “near record” heat with next week likely to bring one of the top five highest August temperatures. He said a battle between low pressure to the south of the UK and high pressure to the north will bring a plume of scorching air up from Africa. He said: “By the weekend we are looking at temperatures the high 20Cs before they creep even higher into the start of next week.

GETTY“A major plume of warm air from Africa and the Continent will arrive in the UK bringing near-record temperatures, certainly among the top five highest for the month.“Highs of 33C-plus are more than likely, and we are expecting warmer temperatures than we saw during the very hot spell last month.”James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, said this weekend could mark the start of a two-week heatwave with warm weather expected to hold out through much of August. He said: “Maximum temperatures are likely to near or exceed the 30C in parts of the south and many other areas can look forward to temperatures in the mid to high 20's at the very least.“It may also feel warmer within the rising humidity levels and with the wall to wall sunshine that is likely to develop within this period of warm to hot weather.GETTY“The good news is that it also looks like hanging around for quite some time, and we could see at least a 1-2 week spell of excellent summer-like conditions for most and if not all parts of the country within this period.”

Netweather predicts 100 per cent humidity over much of the country next week will make it feel close to 35C (95F) in parts of Britain.Bookies have in the past few hours started slashing the odds on Britain hitting the 100F mark by the middle of next week. Britain basks in glorious sunshine The heatwave continues with temperatures reaching 30C wo women sit in the sun on Southsea beach Ladbrokes is offering 2/1 on 100F, with the hottest August on record now 3/1 from 7/2 and summer 2016 turing out to be the hottest ever at 2/1.Spokeswoman Jessica Bridge said: "The sweltering temperatures are on course to smash through the 100F barrier, leaving us with little option but to slash the odds into just 2/1.“After a miserable start to summer it looks like it's a case of better late than never thanks to August's sizzling heatwave.”Error 404: File Not Found The requested page is not found.
