5-Door MINI Cooper Hatchback Officially Revealed 5-door MINI Cooper hatchback officially unveiled Largely just a stretched version of the standard Cooper MINI says 5-door Cooper's U.S. debut will take place later this year MINI has officially unveiled a 5-door version of its newly updated Cooper hatchback. The automaker recently revealed photos of the new car online, along with engine specs and several other details ahead of its launch later this year.On the outside, the 5-door MINI Cooper looks just like you'd expect: a traditional Cooper hatchback, stretched to accommodate two more doors. While that may sound familiar, make no mistake -- this isn't the Clubman, which has rear-hinged back doors, or the Countryman, which offers raised ground clearance. Instead, the new 5-door MINI is just a standard Cooper with a longer body for added practicality. While the 5-door Cooper may be adding utility, it won't be losing anything compared to the standard model. Its power still comes from one of the same two engines -- namely, the 134-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder in base models or the 189-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder in the Cooper S.

And we suspect MINI will make sure that the 5-door model still offers the brand's famously tight handling, so drivers will hardly remember they're carrying two extra doors as they turn corners. Although MINI didn't disclose everything about the new 5-door Cooper, the automaker did say that the new model will be available in 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions, just like the 3-door Cooper hatchback. MINI also noted that a gas-powered Cooper S 5-door will reach 60 miles per hour from a stop in around 6.8 seconds, which isn't bad for a practical car with a 4-cylinder engine.MINI has not yet announced any other information about the 5-door Cooper, except to say that it will reach U.S. dealers sometime later this year. What it means to you: The 5-door MINI Cooper adds a little extra practicality to the MINI lineup we love. Used MINI cars for saleFrom race car versions to becoming an iconic 60s model, the little British cars have come a long way since trace of its development in the 50s. the first models were manufactured by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) under designer Sir Alex Issigonis. The creation of the two-door Mini was in response to a fuel shortage whereby more efficient city cars were needed. It was fitted with a four-cylinder engine and presented on a monocoque shell. It was produced alongside other models of the British Motor Corporation which included Morris Minor and Austin. The first Mini was launched in 1959. The popularity of Mini in the 60s then lead to Mini taking on its own unique identity. The original vehicle remained in production up until 1999.

When a partnership was made with the iconic racer John Cooper of the Cooper Car Company, performance variations of the Mini were then added to its line-up and carried the Cooper name. even though new models were released, Mini vehicles started becoming more of a novelty than an advancement. By the 90s, BMW then bought over the Rover Group, who owned rights to Mini, later selling Rover and keeping Mini. BMW launched the new Mini lines in 2000.a convertible Mini was launched in 2004, the first diesel Mini was introduced in 2007, while in 2008 longer wheelbase and body style models were introduced. In 2011, the first Mini crossover SUV, Mini Cooper S Countryman, was launched in a four-door body style with optional all-wheel drive. BMW continues to experiment with the Mini brand by producing contemporary versions, as well as adding new models to the Mini line-up. Technically, the new model built by BMw is unrelated to the previous. If sporty driving is what you're after, the MINI Hatch will satisfy you on a number of levels. Its interior design is quirky, youthful and oh-so upmarket. The MINI almost carries the same cachet as a sports car, being highly luxurious and too small to be practical.
