xSkills Fork Changes

DeadSigma

The last update to this chapter was in version 1.0.88. I won't be updating it anymore, since hardly anyone reads it anyway.

xSkillsFork

xSkillsFork is a major overhaul of the original mod, focused on compatibility, bug fixes, multiplayer stability, skill balance, and integration with major content mods. The mod has been updated for Vintage Story 1.22+ and migrated to .NET 10 for significantly improved performance.

Technical Improvements

  • Fixed numerous critical crashes and startup issues.
  • Improved multiplayer synchronization and overall server stability.
  • Added additional null checks for entities from other mods.

Gameplay & Skill Changes

A large number of broken or unfinished mechanics from the original mod have been fixed and completely reworked.

Fishing

  • Added a fully featured Fishing skill tree and the new Fisherman profession.
  • Includes the core fishing perks: Nimble Hands, Bait Master, Double Hook, Magnetic Hook, Experienced Butcher, Strong Line, and Good Bait.
  • Added the Fresh Fish perk, increasing the shelf life of freshly caught fish.
  • Added Ancient Mariner (from Panda XSkills Rework), reducing hunger drain while holding a fishing rod.
  • Added Ice Fisher (from Panda XSkills Rework), reducing the effects of cold while fishing.
  • Added Moonlit Waters (from Panda XSkills Rework), increasing bite chance at night.
  • Added the mutually exclusive perks River Specialist (increases bite chance in flowing freshwater) and Coastal Master (increases bite chance in saltwater), both from Panda XSkills Rework.
  • Fixed fishing rod durability loss logic and added configurable loot tables.

Smithing & Metallurgy

  • Added the Safe Quenching perk. Failed quenching no longer vaporizes your tools—they now simply become damaged or break.
  • Restored the original smithing quenching mechanics.
  • Added the Bit Forging perk and the Divine Quenching perk (disabled by default).
  • Added a second level to Bloomery Expert, allowing all metal bits to be smelted in a bloomery.
  • Expanded Automatic Smithing with additional perk levels.
  • Added a 15-second delay before workpieces begin cooling.
  • Replaced xSkills metal bits with the vanilla equivalents.
  • Added an option to disable metal bit forging for compatibility with SmithingPlus.
  • Fixed Heating Hits to apply the correct temperature values.

Cooking

  • Fixed cooking experience gain. Players now also gain experience when cooking with cauldrons from A Culinary Artillery.
  • Added a fourth level to Happy Meal, preventing poisonous ingredients from being added to meals.
  • Added the Refined Dilution perk, allowing Dilution to affect non-edible processing liquids as well.
  • Improved Dilution support for different food property formats and reworked fractional liquid output bonuses using probabilistic rounding.
  • Reworked how Well Done interacts with liquid products in containers.
  • Fast Food and Well Done now affect stew recipes from Expanded Foods.
  • Fixed the Longlife and Cheeeese perks.
  • Cooking perks now work correctly with A Culinary Artillery cauldrons, StoneBakeOven, and Art of Growing campfires.

Survival, Combat & General

  • Added the Hunter Bag perk, providing an additional hunter bag slot. Rebalanced weight distribution so animals inside the bag now slow the player correctly.
  • Added the Swift Spear perk, increasing spear aiming speed.
  • Added the Careful Reader perk, giving a chance not to consume an experience book. Books are now studied instead of being eaten.
  • Restored the original behavior of Abundance Adaptation, causing food to be consumed faster while increasing healing efficiency.
  • Rebalanced the movement speed penalty from Heavy Armor Expert.
  • Fixed the Cat Eyes night vision and Panning perks.
  • Restored experience gain from berry harvesting.
  • Removed profession selection restrictions, including for Allrounder.
  • Added a configurable option to lose all experience on death.
  • Improved perk descriptions to display dynamic values.
  • Added a hotkey (default: J) to toggle the Steeplechaser ability.
