DurableThis mattress topper is encased in a sturdy, well crafted organic cotton cover. In the event that it does tear it would be easy to sew back together. RecyclableThe topper is made from wool that can be returned to the factory and recycled after use. One employee at Moss Envy said that a customer used it as a duvet after its useful life as a topper was over. I can imagine how this thick, wool topper would make a delightful blanket. Chemical freeThe thought of spending one third of my life in bed laying on bedding that smells like a chemistry experiment is one of the main reasons we sought out this bedding.
Even right out of the bag, this topper had absolutely no chemical smell. Locally madeWhen we learned that this topper was locally made at the National Wool Recycling Center in St. Peter, Minnesota, it sealed the deal. Allergy friendlyWool is a difficult material for me to be around because it always makes my skin itch. I have been surprised during the last month to learn that sleeping on top of several inches of wool has caused zero itching. So far we have only tested this topper during cold, winter months. The manufacturer claims that the topper will feel cool in the summer and warm in the winter. All of their other claims have been true so far but we'll have to wait for warmer weather to see if that is the case.
