Why Teens need to pay serious attention to their Mental Health?

A recent survey conducted in schools found out some shocking facts about the mental health of teenagers and the levels of stress they were under. Taking into account the symptoms of these students, some teenagers were suffering the same level of stress as an adult going through a mid-life crisis. This data alarmed the institution conducting this survey, and they were posed with only one question, How To Overcome Stress?

To keep the stress bar, in-check parents need to be aware of specific symptoms. In the case of toddlers they can be Nightmares and Bed-wetting but for teens, they are usually Headaches, changed eating patterns and increased aggression. If not controlled within due time, stress can lead to severe problems like panic disorders and in some cases, result in substance abuse. To prevent these situations, schools and colleges have now come up with Stress Management Workshop Activities.

These activities usually include some skits or role-play where the students are placed in stressful situations and asked to depict how they would tackle this situation and based on their answers, the trainers suggest ways in which they could've done it more efficiently and reduced their stress.

Stress generally come to students especially in teen age due to peer pressure, bullying in schools and colleges, parental pressure, higher expectations of parents from their kids, pressure to perform well in studies and lot more. It is the responsibility of the schools to teach students cope with stress and develop resilience. As success and failure are a part of life, all they need to do is – never give up and always keep trying. Participating is always better than winning and not all life lessons come from success, rather more life lessons come from failures. The students should know how to keep themselves mentally balanced even in stressful situations. Stress management workshop help students in this direction. If students, at a very early age, give up in life and get too pressurized with stress then that can take them to drug addiction and alcoholism. Students thus become anxious and depressed.

To reduce stress in their everyday life, teens can use some natural stress relievers from time to time and keep their stress levels in control. The most popular stress reliever is Music. It can be recommended to deal with tough times or just a rough day in general. A newer method to deal with stress is called PMR (progressive muscle relaxation). It is a series of continuous muscle contraction and relaxation and stretching the muscles to release the tension and stiffness in them. A valuable reliever in dealing with stress can be sleep, a full 8 hours of sleep is a must for students, and even power naps if necessary.
