The name of our platform bed is the Bellmar by Copenhagen Imports. Unfortunately, Copenhagen Imports is not a national retailer. They are located in Arizona and also in Texas. They will ship this platform bed, or any of their products, beyond Arizona or Texas, but it will be at an extra cost. You can find deals on platform beds, and other bed frames, but they are generally more cheaply made or look like a mass manufactured piece I had a certain price point in my head when we were shopping. Needless to say I was quite shocked at what we were finding. I bought desks from IKEA last year that we’re very happy with, as well as other smaller items. However, none of the beds at IKEA felt or looked like they would survive a move. Additionally, we just really didn’t like the aesthetic of any of the IKEA beds. Copenhagen Imports is less than 5 minutes from my home. However, the name scared me off for several months. I couldn’t imagine any reality in which we could find a bedroom set for under $3K in that store. However, that’s exactly what we did. We were able to get a King sized Bellmar platform bed frame, 6 drawer dresser, and two night stands right at $1,500. I know we certainly could have found better deals elsewhere, however we really just loved the modern looked of the Bellmar.

Do drop into the Royal Café on the ground floor for a post-shopping latte. The flagship of this contemporary Danish brand sits across two large floors in a centrally located townhouse with a great view onto the city’s main square. The inventory is constantly changing, so you never know what kind of treasures you’ll come across, but you can expect a consistently exciting lineup with works from the likes of Ilse Crawford and Michael Anastassiades and, of course, some Danish classics. Overgaden neden Vandet 33, 1st floor; theapartment.dkTucked away on a side street just behind the candy-color Nyhavn waterfront district, this gorgeous shop is the gallery and showroom of creative consultant and interior designer Oliver Gustav, who represents Faye Toogood, Vincenzo de Cotiis, and Rick Owens in Scandinavia. He also sells some of his own luxurious but understated designs, in addition to works from Danish modernist master Poul Kjærholm. Gustav is opening a New York outpost later this year. Not a design shop per se, Nibble (located in the trendy Meatpacking District in Vesterbro), as its name suggests, focuses on all things food, gathering a premium selection of gourmet magazines, cookbooks, and food-focused art and design in a beautiful little space that also doubles as a café, and sometimes bar.
Run by chefs and food innovators Bo Lindegaard and Lasse Askov, collectively known as I’m a Kombo, the space is an example of Copenhagen’s wonderfully quirky side. For a glimpse of the contemporary Danish craft scene, Designer Zoo in Vesterbro offers a diverse selection of design, crafts, and art objects created by in-house artisans and a rotating cast of guest designers. Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner, Finn Juhl—you’ll find furniture from all the midcentury Great Danes here (in good condition, too) and a fantastic selection of lighting. This sprawling warehouse-style vintage shop not far from the airport is a treasure trove of furniture, ceramics, rugs, and accessories.
