They quickly dress up otherwise plain chairs and instantly transform the look of an entire space. Unfortunately, the cost of quality covers and sashes can be prohibitive, especially at an event where there are a hundred or more chairs to outfit. An alternative to purchasing or renting these linens is to make them by hand. Giving a dining room or kitchen a facelift does not have to take a lot of time and effort. Making chair covers that slip over the top of dining room chairs offers a quick and budget-friendly update. Not only do these covers refresh a room's look, they also hide any unsightly stains on chair cushions and are easily cleaned or switched out for another look. This is an especially good tactic for preserving dining room chairs from the hands of messy toddlers, and the covers, when made out of washable fabric, can be tossed in the washing machine when they are soiled. Chair covers and sashes are also perfect for a formal event, such as a wedding, bridal shower, or baby shower.

Beautiful chair linens add an air of elegance and romance to any event, but the cost of renting chair covers can be quite high due to the sheer number needed. Making them takes time and effort but can save a significant amount of money. The beauty of making the covers and sashes lies in the ability to customize the fabric to any color or design scheme. Making a no-sew cover is the easiest way to create chair covers and sashes. The only things needed are enough fabric to cover each chair, fabric glue, ribbon or tulle, and a measuring tape. When choosing the fabric, take into consideration the chair's use. If the covers are for a home dining room, purchase fabric that is elegant in style but sturdy enough to withstand repeated washings after the inevitable spills that will occur. Fabrics that are more delicate are suitable for a formal event. Easily cleaned and durable Simplicity can be offset by an elegant satin or silk sash A good choice for families with pets and small children Can be dressed up for more elegant occasions

A blend of cotton fibers and polyester Ideal for everyday use and special occasions Start the process of creating the covers by measuring the back of the chair from the top of the chair to the floor. Next, measure the front of the chair from the top of the chair to the seat and then along the seat and down to the floor. Add these measurements together to determine the total length of fabric required. Measure the chair at its widest point to determine the width of fabric needed. Add 1 1/2 inches to the length and width before cutting the fabric to allow for a 3/4-inch "hem" along each edge. Once the fabric is cut, hem the edges by turning the fabric under and securing it with fabric glue. To create the chair sash, cut a piece of wide satin ribbon or tulle long enough to wrap around the chair, tie a bow, and allow the ends to fall near the floor. Place the cover over the chair and position it properly. Lay the sash across the front of the chair where the seat and back intersect.
