Sure, Kim Kardashian may live in perpetually sunny and warm Los Angeles, but that doesn't mean she doesn't change up her skin-care routine for the winter months. Kardashian posted an interview with her dermatologist, Harold Lancer, to her app today. In it, she asked him for his best winter skin-care tips—and we must say, he's got some sage advice. She also shared the products she uses during the winter, and some of them are surprisingly inexpensive. The biggest cause of dry winter skin, says Lancer, is heater overuse. To fight the moisture-sapping effects, he suggests swapping out your usual cleanser for a gentler formula. "Using a less drying or nonfoaming face wash, adding a hydrating serum, or using a richer moisturizer can help battle the harsh effects of dry air and the elements," he says. Kardashian washes her face with a drugstore favorite, Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. For her moisturizer, Kardashian favors Lancer Skincare Intensive Night Treatment or Olay Regenerist Recovery Cream.

Lancer also suggests working in a vitamin C treatment during the colder months, especially if you live that Kardashian life and spend lots of time skiing. "Adding an antioxidant-heavy treatment, like a vitamin C cream, can help defend against oxidative aging from UV rays if you plan to take any alpine vacations," he says. Kardashian recommends Natura Bisse C+C Vitamin Creme. All of that skin-care advice is sound, but the most crucial tip is this: "The most important product in your winter routine is sunscreen," says Lancer. "So many people, even some of my patients, make the mistake of thinking that once summer is over they can skip the last step in their regimen, sun protection." Want to protect your skin like Kardashian? She slathers on Lancer Skinscare Sheer Fluid Sun Shield SPF 30. Oh, and the layering order for all of these products matters. "As a rule of thumb, serums are always applied first to clean, damp skin, followed by any treatment creams, face oils and finally, moisturizer," says Lancer.

Kardashian's daytime moisturizer of choice is Neutrogena Deep Moisture Day Cream—another drugstore pick. So there you have it: You can find most of Kim Kardashian's winter skin-care products at Target or Rite Aid. Institute for Vibrant Living Smart for Life Cookie Diet The Healthy Back InstituteWant healthier, younger-looking skin, but not at the expense of animals in laboratories? We’re here to help! PETA Prime polled PETA staffers to find out their favorite cruelty-free beauty creams and settled on six top picks. Many of the women we talked to credited sunscreen for fending off the effects of aging, so we’ve included a short list of the most popular cruelty-free sunscreens as well. We also discovered another secret that doesn’t come in a jar: Most of the women we polled said that their skin improved dramatically when they adopted a healthier lifestyle, which included eating a healthy vegan diet comprised mainly of whole foods (vegetables, fruit, nuts, and grains), avoiding processed foods as much as possible, and following a daily exercise routine (even just 15 minutes a day).

All the creams below are vegan (they contain no animal ingredients) and are made by companies that do not test on animals-and parent companies don’t test on animals either. The products are listed by price, from the least to the most expensive (although even the priciest pick won’t break the bank). Sea Moss Moisturizer by Alba Where can I get it? Why we love it: “I have been switching to skin-care products that are made with organic and botanical ingredients. I particularly like this moisturizer because it doesn’t cause my skin to break out and it has a light fragrance that makes me feel like I’m on a beach vacation.” 25,000 I.U. Vitamin E Age Renewal Moisturizing Crème by J? Why we love it: “I like it because it’s fragrance-free, gentle on the skin, and not greasy. It also lasts a long time. A little goes a long way.” Why we love it: “I’m doing my best to hold wrinkles at bay, and this rich cream seems to be helping! It doesn’t clog my pores, it feels light and fresh, and it absorbs well.

A little goes a long way. It’s reasonably priced too.” Vitamin E Moisture Cream by The Body Shop Where I get it? Why we love it: “I’m too cheap and lazy to keep up separate regimes for summer and winter. This cream is light and refreshing in summer, but it is still effective enough to keep my skin soft and supple in winter. There’s also a night cream in the range that treats your skin to a super-rich boost of moisture without being filmy or greasy.” Vitamin C Renewal Facial Cream by Avalon Organics Why we love it: “It has a wonderful citrus scent. It’s light, yet moisturizes deeply, and it contains many organic ingredients.” Aloe & Green Tea Oil-Free Moisturizer by Alba Why we love it: “This cream is absorbed quickly and leaves no greasy feeling or look behind. The smell is nice and not overwhelming like some moisture creams are. Best of all, the ingredients are organic!” Sunscreen use is essential in preventing the aging effects of sun exposure.
