Residence hall rooms include a direct Internet connection via PittNet, the University’s network. Rooms feature both wired and wireless connectivity. Most residence halls feature wall telephones located in the hallways. These phones offer free on-campus calling and free off-campus calling to 412, 724, and 878 area codes (Pittsburgh campus). There is no charge for incoming calls made to the wall phones (except collect or third-party billed to the University). For the University operator, dial 0. All residence halls are also staffed with resident assistants (RAs) and program coordinators (PCs). Sutherland Hall, Tower A and Tower B also has an assistant hall director (AHD) on staff. RDs are full-time professional staff employees who work with students and staff to provide leadership for the building. One RD is on staff in each residence hall. AHDs are graduate students who work closely with the RDs. There is one RA per residence hall floor or wing. RAs are upperclass students who have been trained to assist students with personal, social, academic, and environmental concerns. PCs provide leadership to students and RAs in the areas of community development and educational programming. There is one PC per residence hall. The staff of Residence Life provides information and programs that support the academic goals and contribute to the personal growth and development of residence hall students while you are at the University. The Residence Life office is on the ninth floor of the William Pitt Union.
