Pacers - Princeton is one of five members of the Pacers family.  Their other locations are in Washington DC and three cities in Virginia: Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax. Their website offers, “As part of Pacers Running, we focus on providing excellent customer service through our personalized fit process and extensive product offerings. We look forward to being there #ForEveryRun and celebrating the accomplishments and journeys of all runners here in Princeton.” 9.  Fleet Feet Sports - Hoboken

604 Washington Street, Hoboken Fleet Feet Sports is a well-known name in the running community. The Hoboken store offers multiple weekly group runs, a cash-back rewards program, and they even host or sponsor races throughout the year. Along with supporting local area clubs like HOHA and the Elysianettes, they put on innovative events like Instagram Photo Contests and a Summer Soldiers Challenge.  Unique to their brand is a six step “FIT Process” outlined in their website.  Although Hoboken is known for its revelty at night, Fleet Feet Sports offers the community another type of fun. 8.  Road Runner Sports- Shrewsbury 490 Broad Street, Shrewsbury One of the few shoe retailers in the beach area, this RRS supports many local events such as the Jersey Girl Triathlon, Newton Endless Summer Running Series, Little Silver 5k, Harbour House 5k, and the Race for the Cure.  Along with hosting in-store events, they also host packet pickups for local races.  This just makes them an invaluable asset to the running community.

The VIP Program, if used often, can be a very cost-effective way to purchase your family’s running needs.  They also have a “Shoe Dog” gait analysis process that is both unique to the RRS brand and an effective way to select the right shoe. Here is their store website. 7.  Mullica Hill Running Company 86 N Main Street, Mullica Hill Also owned by Welsh, see below, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.  Online reviews speak for themselves, as a sampling include “Excellent customer service” and “They were very helpful and made sure I had the proper shoes for my needs...I ended up getting a pair of shoes for less than if I ordered online.” The store partners with Welsh’s other stores to support similar community events and teams, as discussed below in a higher ranking. 6. Sneaker Factory - Millburn 308 Millburn Ave, Millburn The Millburn Sneaker Factory is New Jersey’s oldest running store. Lead by Mike Conforti, Sneaker Factory Millburn strives to provide the best experience for all runners, whether it is a first timer trying to complete a 5k, or an experienced athlete looking to crush his or her PRs.

Their website asserts, “Whether you were referred from your doctor, training for a 5k, contemplating your first triathlon event or just hoping to graduate from walking to running, we would love to have the opportunity to meet you and be your resource for all things running.” Sneaker Factory, with a third store in Basking Ridge, also involves itself in roughly one hundred local races, including the President’s Cup in Millburn.  This Millburn store is a small, cozy place that even plays host to post-race awards ceremonies, which makes it that much more unique! 5.  Runner’s Haven - Randolph 477 NJ-10 #114, Randolph Runners in Randolph and the surrounding towns are very familiar with Runner’s Haven, a specialty store located in northern New Jersey. Runner’s Haven has nothing but great reviews from its customers, and if you go at the right time, you may run into one of their special guest professional athletes such as Ashley Higginson. Owner Kevin Higgins is very involved in the community.

Not only does he coach the always-successful Randolph girls distance squad, his children (Molly and Conor) have been vibrant parts of the fitness community, as well, as college distance stars.  They also support local area clubs, such as the Morris County Striders. Their Facebook page is here for more information. 4.  Sneaker Factory - Florham Park 177 Columbia Turnpike, Florham Park A Morris County native, Joe Jacobs heads the Sneaker Factory in Florham Park.  His favorite part of managing a running store is helping his fellow local runners. “I’m so happy to have the chance to help give back to the local running community, “Jacobs says,  “and hopefully enhance their running experience by hosting unique in-store events, providing a very deep selection of product, and taking a keen interest in all things ‘local’ running.” Being a part of the Florham Park Sneaker Factory is truly a unique experience.  His expertise and passion for  running has resulted in several exciting events that take place in the store.

Jacobs frequently brings in high-profile guest speakers such as Alan Webb (3:46.91 Mile and American Record Holder), Robby Andrews (World Team member at 1500 meters), and Kyle Merber (3:51 miler and Columbia grad). His enthusiasm for running and helping people truly shows through in the work he does in his store and community, and this makes a trip to his store more than worth it. Check out his website here. 31 South Street, Morristown If you have been to any of the Superhero Events, then surely you already know the speedy manager of the Morristown Running Company, Heather McDermott. She manages her store under the philosophy that the customers' running needs are the most important part of the business.  On the side, she co-owns and co-directs many races with Chris Russo for the greater Morristown community. She states, “It is important not only to be able to recommend shoes and other running gear, but also to be able to give training advice or suggest a fun local running route.

We want the store to be a place that runners of all abilities enjoy, whether they are coming in to buy or not.“ Morristown Running Company’s goal of being a one-stop shop for all things running carries over into the two group runs they offer from the store weekly: Saturday at 9:00am and Wednesday at 6:15pm.  They also offer a coaching group, “Run This Town,” along with other monthly events from the store. Whether you need a new pair of shoes, a box of GUs, or just want to meet for a run with some friends, Morristown Running Company is a great place to go! Their Facebook page is here. 130 Schanck Road, Freehold Chances are, you’ve heard of Runner’s High. Whether it is the mystical feeling you get during a run, or the running store in Freehold, you can’t go wrong with either one. Runner’s High, founded by Rob DeFelippis, has its flagship store in Metuchen.  The Freehold store is a unique resource to the beach area, as it’s fraught with talented and committed runners.

Co-founded by DeFelippis and father/son combination Craig and Jim Segal, the staff is a very knowledgeable, passionate group.  Also on the payroll is Dean Shonts, the “Father of NJ Running.”  The man who opened up the first running store in NJ in 1978, he is now retired, living near the shore, and helping out Runner’s High.  Such a great cast of employees makes a visit to this store quite different than going to Dick's Sporting Goods! The store is also involved in many local events and races, such as the Belmar Chase, the NJ Marathon, and the Shore Running Experience Camp. Learn more about them here. 121 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield Looking for the ultimate South Jersey running experience? Look no further than the Haddonfield Running Company.
