DETROIT (WWJ) – Talk about creative! As the first-ever full-length theatrical movie based entirely on Lego ® characters, The Lego ® Movie is definitely that! The Lego ® Movie is a 3D computer-animated story that follows Emmet, a happy-go-lucky, average Lego construction worker who is mistaken for “The Special,” the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Getting Emmet to take on this quest is the adventurous Wyldstyle, who mistakes him for the world’s savior. Once Emmet and Wyldstyle set out to save the world, the two are assisted by the mystic Vitruvius, the superhero Batman ™, the pirate Metal Beard, the loveable Unikitty; and Benny, a 1980-something Spaceman. The crew goes up against President Business, aka Lord Business, who is obsessed with world domination. Lord Business’ henchman is Good Cop/Bad Cop, who will do whatever Lord Business asks — I mean, demands — of him. While The Lego ® Movie is definitely a “kid pleaser,” adults who played with Lego toys during their childhood will find a lot to like about the movie, as well.

And that’s exactly what writer/directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller intended. “We both thought,” Lord says, “Wouldn’t it be amazing to make a big, fun, action-packed LEGO adventure that captures the feeling of being a kid putting these pieces together, but on a truly epic scale?” And epic it is: the number of Lego pieces used in The Lego ® Movie approached 15 million! Can you imagine how much fun it would be to have that many at your disposal?! So, if most of us can’t have fun playing with 15 million Lego pieces that are all our own, at least we can let the kid in us have fun watching them up on the Big Screen. Have fun watching the Lego ® Movie and I’ll see you at the movies!
