"Thor: El mundo oscuro" dobla en taquilla a la primera ... ... La película de Walt Disney Pictures y Marvel Studios, "Thor: El mundo oscuro", ha abierto a lo grande en su estreno en USA después de recaudar en taquilla 7,1 millones de dólares ayer jueves. “It’s confusing and I only kind of liked it,” was my 7-year-old granddaughter’s initial response to The Lego Movie. I have to agree. The song was cute and the plot, with its two levels of meaning, entertained me on an adult level. It was clever, but it did not grab my heart. In fact, as I thought about it, its message confused me even more. Let’s cut to the chase. This one was for the boys, which I guess is only fair after watching my granddaughters get so caught up in the Frozen frenzy. But while Frozen made heroines of Elsa and Anna and had a great sound track, there were admirable guys in it as well. OK, well Kristoff was a great guy as were Olaf (who happened to be a snowman) and Sven (who was a reindeer).

And the baddies were all guys, come to think of it. But at least there were as many males as females in the film. The Lego Movie, on the other hand, featured one main female character, Wyldstyle, who was frankly annoying. The only other females were Wonder Woman in a small role as one of the many superhero Legos, and an off-screen baby sister at the end who promised to invade the father/son “man cave” with her pink and purple Duplos. Oh, and there was the pink and goofy Unikitty. So yes, I think this was a movie that appeals more to the guys. I can live with that, but I also found the underlying message confusing in light of what Lego is currently marketing and selling. “Unleash your imagination now,” the movie’s trailer proclaims. The theme seems to be: Be creative. Don’t build only one thing. Don’t keep it in place with superglue. Make your own unique creations. Unfortunately, that is not how Lego markets its products these days. I went to Target, admittedly after Christmas, hoping to find a huge tub of Legos for my grandkids to build and create things together.

My motivation was watching my husband and grandson assemble a Lego kit that made a space ship only. They had to be so careful not to lose a single piece or the end product would be ruined. Once finished, it was finished. It really couldn’t be anything else. Unfortunately, Target only had an aisle of kits in the boys’ toy section. , searching for just Lego pieces, and I found: I guess I could mix them together to make a collection all of my grandkids, male and female, would like. Then I feared they would re-sort them into the boy and girl colors, which was a depressing thought. What ever happened to just plain Legos in basic primary colors? But I didn’t give up. Unfortunately, here’s what the Lego store recommended “just for me” (each one $30): So now we were back to just the gender-specific kits. I know, I’ve strayed far afield from reviewing The Lego Movie, but after its cleverness had worn off, I was left feeling a bit sad. These happy little pieces now have to be divided by gender and forced to be building kits for one thing only.

The Lego Movie theme song Everything is Awesome tells us (and I think this was supposed to be ironic in the movie): “We’re the same, I’m like you, you’re like me, we are working in harmony…Everything is awesome, everything is cool when you're part of a team. Everything is awesome, when you’re living out a dream.” I’m not sure how I feel about what this catchy tune tells our kids. Teamwork is great, but are we all the same? If we are, why divide Lego sets by gender? If it’s awesome to live out a dream, why make sets with which a kid can only create one thing? I saw this and I'm watching the Lego movie, and this scene…The dinosaurs are lot smaller than the originals — and so is one of the filmmakers. Paul Hollingsworth and his 8-year-old daughter, Hailee, decided to create a Lego version of Jurassic Park. This isn't the first parody this father-daughter duo from Los Angeles has made, but it definitely took the most work. Hollingsworth expected the project to take a week or two over winter break; it ended up taking 3 1/2 months. They spend a lot of time with Lego. The two visit Legoland every year, spend hours every month at the Lego store and take even more time sorting the pieces every week. It's not all glamorous — especially the sorting — but it's something they do as a family, Hollingsworth says. In the past few years, the two have started making movies together. "She would voice, or we would build the sets together," Hollingsworth says. "We just always loved Lego, and here's a little girl that wants to play with her dad."

Hailee now has her own YouTube show, Brick Grrl, in which she shows viewers how to build Lego Friends sets. "It's just a fun little way for her to really practice her storytelling skills," Hollingsworth says. Hollingsworth has a background in film; he has worked on low-budget features and TV shows, including Extreme Escapes. He even works for Lego on the Lego Mixels show. The first movie he ever made was with a friend in high school — Jurassic Park with action figures. It wasn't his best work, Hollingsworth says. They used a VHS camera and recorded every shot in order because they didn't know much about editing at the time. Lego Says You Can't Build That — Because Of Politics What Do 'The Simpsons' Look Like In Lego? Nathan Sawaya: Lego My Van Gogh "Jurassic Park just struck a chord with us, and we just wanted to keep making movies after that," Hollingsworth says. The "Lego Jurassic Park" video tried his and his daughter's patience. It could be frustrating to shoot a scene for several hours and decide it just didn't look right.

But Hailee has grown to be more patient over the years, her father says. It can be rewarding to see how a scene finally comes together after shooting frame after frame. It wasn't just Hollingsworth and his daughter working on this funny video, though. Hollingsworth and several of his friends who also work on movies and TV shows formed Digital Wizards, a group he says is geared toward creating online entertainment. For "Lego Jurassic Park," they combined the collections of several people in the group, some of whom have collections worth $80,000, Hollingsworth says. His collection is worth roughly $40,000. "Lego Jurassic Park" is the biggest project Digital Wizards has worked on together, he says. Other projects included The Mocking Dead, Batman's Day Off and Two Towers in Two Minutes. Because the Lego videos are parodies, Hollingsworth says he isn't worried about copyright infringement. The video, posted to YouTube on March 10, has received more than 900,000 views. He tweeted to several people, including Philip Lord, Chris Pratt and Jeff Goldblum asking what they thought.
