Q: Where is the lock block position on a Premdor door? Standard Core doors have a single lock block. The side of the door that the lock block is situated is indicated on the top of the door. On the veneered doors, the lock block is positioned centrally. On moulded doors, the top of the lock block is located 880mm from the top of the door. The lock block is 360mm long by 80mm deep (+ / - 15mm). The Semi Solid Core door (moulded only) has a full length lock block on both sides of the door. Safe 'N' Sound (moulded only), Fireshield FD30 and Firemaster FD60 doors are solid core options and therefore, there is no lock block. Q: What do I do if the lock block position is not marked? A: If the door is not marked with the word LOCK or the letter L, you will need to tap down either stile (the long edge) to find the position of the lock block; this should make a denser sound. Failing this, a small pilot hole can be drilled into the edge of the door. If the drill passes easily through the timber framing at around 27mm, this is not the lock side.

Q: How much can you trim off a Premdor moulded or veneered door? A: The maximum trimming recommended is 5mm from any edge on Standard Core, Semi Solid Core (moulded only) and Safe 'N' Sound (moulded only) doors. The maximum trimming recommended for Fireshield FD30 and Firemaster FD60 doors is 3mm from the long edges and 5mm from the bottom. Please note, that trimming the top of the fire door will invalidate Premdor's fire certification and the door will no longer be compliant with current fire legislation. For further information or technical assistance relating to fire doors, please contact Technical Services on 0844 209 0008 or alternatively, fill out the Premdor Enquiry Form. Q: What are the maximum and minimum door sizes available? The maximum range guide door size for moulded, interior flush popular paint grade & exterior flush doors is 926mm wide and 2040mm high. The maximum door size for veneered and Paint Grade Plus doors is 1100mm wide and 2400mm high, although such sizes are classed as 'Special' made to order items and are not included in our current Range.

The minimum door size for veneered doors is 381mm wide and 1200mm high. The minimum door size for moulded doors is dependent on style. Please contact Premdor on 0844 209 0008 for further information. Q: What Premdor doors can be factory primed or fully finished? A: The textured moulded door can be factory primed or fully finished in white. Smooth moulded and popular flush doors can be factory primed only. The French and folding doors are available fully-finished as standard. Q: Can special sizes and styles be manufactured in the Premium Door Collection and French door ranges? A: These doors are imported and are only available in the sizes and styles shown in the current Premdor Range Guide. Q: How do you specify the hanging / hinge side? A: SoundSecure systems are viewed from the outside. SpeedSet Plus and all other standard doors are viewed from the inside. Q: What are the intumescent strip / smoke seal requirements for Premdor FD30 and FD60 rated fire doors?

A: The FD30 intumescent / smoke seal requirements are as follows: - Single door leaf – 15 x 4 intumescent strip/ smoke seal fitted to top and two long edges of door or frame. Double doors – 15 x 4 intumescent strip / smoke seal fitted to top and hanging edges of the door or frame and 10 x 4 intumescent strip / smoke seal fitted to meeting stiles (this must be offset). If you are using smoke seals on a pair of doors, you must offset one 10 x 4 smoke seal to one leaf and one 10 x 4 intumescent strip to the other. The FD60 intumescent strip / smoke seals requirements are as follows: - Single door leaf – Two 15 x 4 intumescent strips / smoke seals fitted to the top and the two long edges of the door or frame. Double doors – Two 15 x 4 intumescent strips / smoke seals fitted to the top and the hanging edges of door or the frame and two 10 x 4 intumescent strips fitted to the meeting stiles (this must be offset). Q: Can Premdor fire doors be supplied unglazed?

A: Fire doors can only be supplied factory glazed in accordance with our relevant fire certification. Q: How many hinges are required for FD30 and FD60 rated fire doors? A: Premdor recommend three (1.1/2 pair) Butt hinges for fire doors. All ironmongery must be Certifire Approved. Q: Do Premdor manufacture FD20 fire doors? A: As a committed member of the BWF-Certifire Fire Door & Doorset Scheme, Premdor do not manufacture FD20 fire doors. BWF-Certifire and its members, consisting of many of the UK's leading door manufacturers, agreed to stop the manufacture and distribution of FD20 fire doors after it was noted that in order to meet an FD20 specification without intumescent seals (as per previous Standards), the doorset would require minimal, yet accurate, gaps between the leaf and frame, which is notoriously difficult to achieve. It was also noted that this accuracy would be difficult to maintain throughout the service life of the door assembly. Q: Which Premdor doors are FSC® or PEFC approved? A: Premdor has an extensive range of internal and external timber doors, French and folding doors, and doorsets available to supply customers with either FSC® or PEFC Chain of Custody, which offers assurance that an independently audited route to market is being followed, demonstrating our commitment to environmentally and socially responsible forest management. FSC® and PEFC Certification relate to timber doors within the Premdor 'Chain of Custody' portfolio and are represented through the use of the FSC® or PEFC logo alongside certified doors within the current Range Guide. Q: Can Premdor manufacture special sizes and door styles within the Bi-fold range? A: The Bi-fold doors are only available in the door styles and door sizes shown in the current Range Guide. Q: Can a glass opening be cut into the Innova range of doors? A: Premdor do not offer glass openings within the Innova range. Q: Can Premdor manufacture special size glass openings in doors?

A: Yes, providing the dimensions of the aperture fall within Premdor's current Certifire certification. Please call Premdor on 0844 209 0008 for further clarification. Q: What thickness of glass is required for internal and external doors? Q: Glazed and apertured moulded doors are shown with MDF glazing cassettes; therefore, can I specify which cassette type I require? A: The MDF glazing cassettes selection is available in Premdor's option only and cannot be specified by the customer. Q: Can the External Ply or Popular paint grade doors be stained? A: These doors are suitable for painting only. Q: Can the External & Internal Matchboard doors be stained? A: The matchboard doors are suitable for painting only as the doors have staples and staple holes in the method of construction. The staples and staple holes can be filled, so they will not show once painted. These staples and staple holes will show when stained, however, as it is not possible to fill the holes prior to staining.
