We’ve stipulated in the contract that both skilled and unskilled labourers from the Far North are to be given priority wherever possible.“I’ve also looked for a guarantee that wherever Cairns has skilled labourers, that those local contractors and subbies are to be used first.“There will be 100 per cent local employment in the painting, concreting, demolition, electrical, plumbing, cleaning, carpentry, waterproofing and crane operating teams.“Additionally there’ll be 20 local roofers, 10 local scaffolders and two local roof safety experts to work alongside specialists from Brisbane.”Cairns MP Rob Pyne said the roof replacement was needed after 20 years of exposure to the elements.“Other key elements of the upgrade include a new arrival zone featuring lighting that has the ability to change colour to suit client requirements, LED signage stretching the length of the zone and new sliding glass doors,” he said.Masters Builders Queensland Far North regional manager Ron Bannah said he had urged Paynter Dixon to use local suppliers and trade contractors as much as possible.
