Here you will find some of our most frequently asked questions and answers from our Regional Sales Managers across the country. Please contact a Takara Belmont representative in your area for additional information or if you have additional questions. Why should I choose Takara Belmont? Through time and motion studies of working stylists, Takara Belmont USA, Incorporated engineers and designers have concluded the following cause stylist fatigue: The Angle of Inclination.  This is the angle of the stylist elbow when cutting hair.  The greater the angle, the greater the fatigue; not only on the arms, but the heart as well.

Takara Belmont chairs are designed to have a disappearing back while the client is seated, thus minimizing the angle of inclination. Improper body position of client.  When the client slouches or leans to one side, the resulting cut is not symmetrical.  This can also be due to the client crossing their legs while seated.  Takara Belmont chairs are designed to be MOST comfortable when the client is seated in the "Body Perfect Range".  This simply means the client is sitting upright, with BOTH feet on the footrest.  Takara Belmont engineers have also eliminated the need for the stylist to ask the client, "would you please sit up straight"? Working around client elbows.  When the proportions of the chair are not ergonomically matched to that of the client, the client's elbows protrude from the external lines of the chair.  When this occurs, the stylist cannot work comfortably for fear of "catching an elbow" in the side, thigh or hip when turning the chair.  Takara Belmont chairs are designed for client and stylist comfort by eliminating protruding elbows from the sides of the chair.

Appliance cords catch on the arms of the chair.  Takara Belmont engineers have eliminated this simple problem by using a "closed" arm on ALL chairs.  No more open ends on the arms to tangle the stylist curling iron or blow dryer cords when turning the chair. Will Takara Belmont chairs last longer than cheaper imports? With over 200 years of combined manufacturing expertise, the Takara Belmont Group of Companies has determined the following construction methods will cause a chair to age prematurely: Seams in the seat or along the front top edge of the seat.  Any sewn seam consists of perforations of the vinyl made by the needle of the sewing machine.  Over time, as the vinyl looses its elasticity, it shrinks and becomes more brittle causing these holes to enlarge.  When a client slides in or out of the seat over the seam, pressure is placed on that area, resulting in a splitting of the vinyl.  Takara Belmont has identified this problem, and if a seam is necessary in the front edge of the seat, a "knife edge" seam is used.

This method allows the seam to be placed in the middle of the front edge of the chair, not at the top edge where problems occur. In a salon, moisture is inevitable especially in the shampoo area.  Water seeps through the seams and gets trapped on the fabric backing of the vinyl, resulting in mildew which causes fabrics to rot and emit an unpleasant odor if left untreated   This is prevalent in many imported chairs transported by ship to the United States due to the extended period they are subjected to high temperatures and humidity.  To eliminate this problem, Takara Belmont uses ONLY marine grade vinyl; the same vinyl used on the interiors of boats, which have a special mildew resistant backing. If the foam used is not dense enough, resulting in a "soft sitting seat", the vinyl will eventually crack due to a breakdown in the backing. Takara Belmont uses 30 and / or 40 pound density foam in all seats to eliminate any potential problems. Why are Takara Belmont chairs more expensive than others?

This is a common misconception.  Most people confuse price with cost.  Takara Belmont USA, Incorporated chairs are actually the least expensive chairs to own over their lifetime. First, let's distinguish the difference between "cost" and "price".  The price of a given object is the initial investment.  Cost is that initial investment PLUS all other expenses incurred on that object over the useful life of that object.  We've all experienced this concept with our automobiles, for example. The truth is, Takara Belmont chairs will outlast their competitors, which is one reason there is a 5 year warranty on ALL of the hydraulic bases and recline mechanisms.  If one assumes the useful life of an object to be the warranty period in effect, Takara Belmont chairs will last four times longer than a chair with a one year warranty, and up to 19 times longer than those with a 90 day warranty. Where are your products made? Takara Belmont has manufacturing facilities and distribution centers throughout the world.

How long will it take to receive my order? Different products have different lead times since a majority of our products are made-to-order.  However 6 - 8 weeks is the typical lead time.  Your Takara Belmont representative can specify the lead time just for your order. What kind of Warranty do you offer on your equipment? The Warranty differs with our products, so please ask your Takara Belmont representative for details. Why don't you list parts for your equipment on your website? We do not list our parts for all of our equipment simply because we want to make sure you receive the items you need when you place an order. We are constantly working to improve upon our equipment through design and engineering.  As those parts change and evolve, simple little adjustments might make your current piece of equipment require different parts than you originally thought. Speak to your Takara Belmont sales representative about any issues you may be having, and he or she will be sure to supply you with exactly what you need.

Do you have parts for older chairs and bases?Parts are limited for items more than five years old.  When requesting a part for an older item, please send us a photo of the product in question, and we will let you know if we still carry what you are looking for. How do I find out about pricing?  Can you send me a catalog with prices? Our literature materials do not include pricing.  Please ask your Takara Belmont representative for prices on the items you are particularly interested in. Which chairs have a headrest option? Basically any of our barber chairs can come with a headrest and most of our other chairs can too.  The only chairs that do not have a headrest option are chairs with a metal or fabric back, such as the Decora, Clio and Ghia; or ones that have too much of an angle for a headrest to be positioned properly such as the Min.  If you are interested in a headrest option, speak with your Takara Belmont sales representative and he or she will tell you if a headrest is an option.

Which chairs can be used for styling as well as for shampooing? Any of our barber chairs can be used for both as well as any of our beauty chairs that begin with the model code of "AP" which stands for all-purpose.  You will see that on all chair product information on this website, we include a note if it can be used as an all-purpose chair. What is the difference between a "Springback" Mechanism vs. an "All-Purpose" Mechanism for my shampoo chairs? A Springback Mechanism is special because it has continuous movement when leaning back on the chair and into the shampoo bowl.  The Springback Mechanism does not lock, but provides ease of movement when shampooing. The All-Purpose Mechanism locks and almost any angle that's comfortable for shampooing and should you need to bring the chair upright at a locked position (i.e. processing, conditioning), this is an excellent mechanism for "dual-purpose" applications. What does the base of a dryer chair look like?
