As an avid reader and rocking chair craftsman with more than 24 years of experience, Hal Taylor cherished story time with his two kids on his handmade creations. But when his third child was born, he became frustrated with the one-size-fits-all nature of his chairs. "I did not have a lap large enough for three children [so] I had to come up with something," Taylor said on his website. And that something was the StoryTime Rocking Chair.Sure, at first glance this chair crammed full of three kids reminds us of an Awkward Family Photo. But upon closer inspection, we realized just how genius it truly is: The traditional placement for arm rests is transformed into seats for two youngsters, complete with back braces and a head rest so if someone nods off for a nap, no harm done.Want your own rocker? You're in good company. The royal family of Abu Dhabi owns five. But it'll cost you: They go for a steep $7,000 to $7,500, because each is handmade to fit your family. They're also extremely complex to build since the robust back requires more than 200 precisely cut and shaped pieces of wood to make up the 19 back braces — which is more than you'll find in 20 normal rocking chairs.

Here's a view of the rocking chair from above: And here's a closer look at one of the two seats Taylor designed for children. Our only question: What is Taylor going to do if he has a fourth child? 12 Bathroom Paint Colors That Always Look Fresh and Clean 6 Decor Trends That Need to Go Away in 2017 25+ Home Decor Ideas for $50 or Less 15 Refreshing Kitchen Color Ideas for a Not-So-Boring Space Why We Need to Just Stop With Open Floor Plans It's Time to Stop Putting Hardwood Floors in Every Room 3 Home Trends That Will Definitely Go Out of Style in 2017 This Mom Transformed Her Son's Room Into a Glow-in-the-Dark Wonder This DIY Floor Was Made Using $130 Worth of Pennies 15 Dreamy Kitchen Island Ideas DaVinci Olive Upholstered Swivel Glider and Ottoman in Grey with Cream Piping Dutailier® Ultramotion Bella Classic Glider and Ottoman in Buckwheat DaVinci Olive Upholstered Swivel Glider with Ottoman in Cream Abbyson Living Thatcher Rocker in Beige

Using mutiple colors to paint your child's rocking chair can give it a custom look. Painting the furniture in your child's room is an ideal way to personalize the space and make it feel a bit more special. You may not necessarily want to paint a large furniture item, such as the bed frame or dresser, though, because your child may use it for many years. But a small piece like a rocking chair is a perfect candidate and lends itself to a variety of creative looks that don't necessarily require first-rate art skills to achieve.

Go Colorful When you’re painting a rocking chair for a child, it’s an ideal time to play with color. If the rocking chair is for a nursery, you might use a robin’s egg blue, bubblegum pink or soft yellow for a classic look. For an older child, you can spray paint the chair in a bold, bright shade that complements the rest of the decor – and you certainly can’t go wrong if you use your child’s favorite color. For a girl’s room, vibrant hot pink, royal purple, lime green or turquoise can work well. For a boy’s room, try painting the chair in a vivid cobalt, bright orange or primary red. Try Mulitple Colors While painting your child’s rocking chair in a bright color can be fun, you can create an even more whimsical, child-friendly look by using multiple shades to paint it. Since a rocking chair is composed of several individual sections, it’s easy to create a multicolor design by using painter’s tape to mark off the various areas. Go for a simple look by using two shades;

for example, you might paint the chair’s head rest, seat and rockers pink and use lime green paint for the back, arms and legs of the chair. However, you may prefer a more creative look by using three or more shades to paint the chair. You could paint the bulk of the chair white and use a different shade for each of the back rails to create a rainbow effect. Get Patterned Color isn’t the only way to add some whimsy to your child’s rocking chair. Painting a pattern on the chair can give it a fun, custom look that complements the other decor in the room. Best of all, you don’t need to be an artist to create a patterned look for your child’s rocking chair. You can create an easy striped design for the head rest or seat using painter’s tape to mark off the sections. Painter’s tape is also ideal for creating a checkerboard pattern on the rocking chair’s seat. A polka dot design is another fun pattern for a child’s rocking chair. Use bottle caps or paper cups to trace circles all over the chair and fill them in with your child’s favorite color.
