Rockstar Games has sent a cease and desist to the creator of a sexual content mod for Red Dead Redemption 2. 
The mod, titled “Hot Coffee,” allows players of the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 to hire a prostitute in one of three saloons in the game. An awkward animation follows featuring playable character Arthur Morgan and a fully clothed woman groaning in joyless congress. 
It is, in other words, quite tame, quite silly, and completely consensual. To access the mod, players must download it and install it alongside the PC version of the 2019 game. It is not something players will encounter unwittingly. 
Rockstar, however, wants the modder, who goes by the name Unlosing, to take it down from popular modding site Nexus Mods. 
Unlosing claims his mod uses only assets (character models, animations, sound effects, etc) already available in the game, albeit recontextualised to simulate sexual acts, and thus is not a violation of the game’s terms of use.  
“Frankly, it is the sexual content of the Hot Coffee mod that is causing particular concern here,” said Rockstar. 
At the time of publication, Unlosing has refused to either cease or desist and the mod remains available for download. 
The mod’s name is a reference to the Hot Coffee mod of another Rockstar game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, back in 2005. In that instance, the mod accessed code that Rockstar’s development team had left in the shipped game for an incomplete sex mini-game. Players could not access the mini-game in the normal course of gameplay, but they were able to do so with the Hot Coffee mod. Rockstar pulled the game from sale and re-issued it without the mini-game code.

The RDR2 mof allowing for animated sex scenes was taken offline yesterday. For now, it is not even known whether it was the creator himself who decided to remove it, or whether NexusMods, where the mod was available, did it.
You can no longer download the sex mod for RDR2.

A few days ago, we wrote about the controversy that has arisen around a "hot coffee" mod for Red Dead Redemption 2. It introduced a mini-game for animated sex acts with prostitutes. Interestingly, the mod did not contain any nudity and used only animations and sounds that were originally available in the game. However, this did not appeal to devs who believe that the modification violates the rules contained in the user license and the online code of conduct.

Just a few days ago, the creator complained that he is not going to take the mod down, but it was nevertheless removed from NexusMods yesterday (information about it can be found on this page). It is not known what was the reason for this decision, and whether the creator himself did it, or whether the website hosting the mod intervened in the matter to protect itself from potential problems with Take-Two and Rockstar. PCGamesN journalists have already contacted the creator and if they find out something specific, they will share it with us.
The reason for this reaction of RDR2 devs is probably the desire to avoid image problems similar to those when a similar mod was introduced to GTA: San Andreas. It then led to a change in the game's age rating and led to its temporary withdrawal from sale in the USA. Apparently the publisher and developer prefer to play it safe this time.
