THE MATTRESS SIZE GUIDE The size of your mattress is one of the first, not to mention most important decisions you need to make. There are many options available but here are some handy tips when choosing the best size that suits you: * A mattress should be at least 10cm longer than the height of the tallest person using it. * The width of the mattress should allow you to be able to put both your hands under your head without your elbows touching the edge of the mattress or the person sleeping next to you. * European mattress sizes differ from UK mattress sizes. Select two bed sizes to compare 1 5'0 King W 152cm x L 202cm (5ft x 6'8") With plenty of room to spare, this mattress allows partners to get extremely comfortable. 2 5'0 King * W 152cm x L 202cm (5ft x 6'8") 1 Toddler W 77cm x L 142cm (2'6" x 4'8") This toddler mattress is perfect for smaller bed frames for little ones. 2 Toddler * W 77cm x L 142cm (2'6" x 4'8") 1 2'6 Small Single W 77cm x L 192cm (2'6" x 6'4")

The small single will fit narrower kid's bed frames and guest beds. 2 2'6 Small Single * W 77cm x L 192cm (2'6" x 6'4") 1 3'0 Single W 92cm x L 192cm (3ft x 6'4") A slightly larger single mattress for regular use and extra comfort. 2 3'0 Single * W 92cm x L 192cm (3ft x 6'4") 1 4'0 Small Double W 122cm x L 192cm (4ft x 6'4") Small double beds add a little more sleeping space to smaller areas. 2 4'0 Small Double * W 122cm x L 192cm (4ft x 6'4") 1 4'6 Double W 137cm x L 192cm (4'6" x 6'4") Perfect for couples, this double size provides ample sleeping room. 2 4'6 Double * W 137cm x L 192cm (4'6" x 6'4") 1 6'0 Super King W 182cm x L 202cm (6ft x 6'8") This mattress size is the king of comfort, with the opportunity to really stretch out for both you and your partner. 2 6'0 Super King * W 182cm x L 202cm (6ft x 6'8") 6'0 SUPER KING W 182cm x L 202cm (6ft x 6'6'') The very best in sleeping comfort - the super king mattress gives an unbeatable amount of space for you and your partner.

If your family all like to squeeze in together on Sunday mornings or just someone who values a lot of space, the Super King is a great option. Best for: 2 persons 5'0 KING W 152cm x L 202cm (5ft x 6'6'') Great if you like plenty of sleeping room; a king size mattress will mean you'll be able to turn and move positions without disturbing your partner. If you or your partner are 190cm or taller we recommend a King. In the US this mattress is referred to as a 'Queen' and is known in Japan as a 'Wide Double'. 4'6 DOUBLE W 137cm x L 192cm (4'6'' x 6'4'') A double mattress is the perfect sleeping solution for couples. This size allows for a good amount of room so each person can get an undisturbed night's sleep. Here, at Dreams we stock a huge range of double mattresses with a wide variety of materials and construction. 4'0 SMALL DOUBLE W 122cm x L 192cm (4ft x 6'4'') Small Double mattresses are better suited for one person but can be bought for two average sized adults who don't mind sleeping close to each other.

A small double is also a good choice for couples whose bedroom isn't particularly wide. Best for: 1 person 3'0 SINGLE W 92cm x L 192cm (3ft x 6'4'') This size is great for people who sleep on their own and is a good longer term option for a child as it will last well into their teens. Single sized mattresses are also a great option for larger spare rooms and guest bedrooms. 2'6 SMALL SINGLE W 77cm x L 192cm (2'6'' x 6'4'') The small single will fit narrower kids' bed frames and guest beds. It's the perfect size if you're trying to save on space and is great for a spare room as it can be easily moved when you have guests. Best for: Young kids Toddler W 77cm x L 142cm (2'6'' x 4'8'') A toddler sized mattress is the perfect size for kids aged between one and three and is a great starter for kids ready to move out of their cots. Care should be taken to ensure that the mattress fits perfectly on your kids' bed. Turning the mattress regularly will also reduce wear over time.

Please solve an argument my traveling companion and I are having about bed sizes in UK. We are looking at the Bloomsbury Hotel in Bloomsbury area, which is a splurge for us, so I want to make sure I understand what the bed sizes are and it makes a big difference in price Hotel site says they have a superior Queen 330 GPB or a superior king for for 210 GBP - that seems backwards to me! They have a 2 double beds for 250 GBP. The hotel sent us an email saying "superior twin room" has queen size beds for GBP 227 - which means just one queen bed to me rather than 2 single or 2 double beds but my companion insists it means 2 double beds. From what I have read, a UK queen is more like a larger USA double and a UK king is more like a USA queen.

I tend to "kick" in my sleep, which is why 2 beds are usually more comfortable. So what's the story? have MUCH better rates. Any thoughts on that or another Bloomsbury hotel recommendation that is a short walk from British Museum? I understand that a single is 3ft, small double which we call a queen is 4ft, standard double is 4 ft 6, king size is 5ft and a superking is 6ft ( these are all widths) If a twin room is advertised it means 2 beds, usually singles. A double room usually means one double bed. my queen bed in London is 5ft wide This website will solve your argument. No wonder our poor visitors from the US get confused! We recently bought a small double for our spare room and the shop called it a "queen". I've just googled UK bed sizes and got different dimensions on different sites! Some suggest that a Queen is equivalent to a Superking. I didn't know either. A twin room was so called because it had twin beds ie two single beds. A double room used to be called that because it had a double bed.

Then they started making beds in larger sizes, so a double room could mean a double, king or queen bed. And nowadays some hotels refer to double rooms when there is in fact more than one bed. But you can always be certain that if it is called a twin room in the UK, there will be two beds, although you will need to ask what size the beds are if that is important. Thanks everyone for the tutorial I have looked at Bedtime Superstores and CSG Networks and here is the comparison in case it helps anyone else: UK Single – 3 ft or 36” compares to USA twin/single 39” UK Small double – 4 ft or 48” UK Double 4ft 6inches or 54”- would compare to USA full/double of 54” wide UK King – 5 ft or 60” - would compare to USA queen of 60” wide UK Super king 6 ft or 72” – would compare to USA California king 72” wide. FYI Eastern USA king is 76” wide but a bit shorter than California King. I have never heard of expanded or super queen beds – 66” wide or Grand King Bed 80” wide in USA

Fiznlil - you are so right about bed sizes being confusing everywhere - we purchased two different beds about 6 months ago - one for guest room and one for main bedroom and it was like trying to buy a used car - every mattress company has different lingos and sizes and options - we are talking headache time here! TexScot - you are right in that the only room with two beds is the deluxe 2 double beds which costs more than a king size room. But when I go to book on their web site, it only shows double or queen or king suite, no "regular king" room or 2 double bed room. Bottom line is we are happy with either a twin room with 2 beds of any size or a UK King room (usa queen room). I don't know who wins the margarita, though, since the email from Bloomsbury seems to contradict their web site. Maybe we will both get margaritas tonight :) The "superior" portion (and accompanying price) may have less to do with the bed and more to do with the view, the room size, etc. is rather good at giving the specifics of a room.
