Volume 37, Issue 2, February 2007, Pages 270–282 A microstructural approach to adherence mechanism of poly(vinyl alcohol) modified cement systems to ceramic tiles Received 29 March 2006, Accepted 12 November 2006, Available online 28 December 2006PVA is a water soluble polymer used as cement modifier. An important modification observed by addition of PVA is the increase of the bond strength between cement paste and aggregate. The purpose of this work was to investigate the effect of PVA on the mechanism of adherence of cement pastes to ceramic tiles. Pastes with and without PVA were applied on the back side of porcelain tiles and after 56 days the microstructures of the interfaces were evaluated by SEM. The mode of rupture changed from mostly interfacial failure to a mixed-mode interfacial-cohesive failure for the paste with polymer addition in which was observed the reduction of the thickness of the porous transition zone between tile and paste bulk.

Also, in plain paste the formation of a duplex film (CH plus C–S–H) in contact with tile surface was observed while in modified paste a single layer of C–S–H was identified. Keywords; ; ; ; Copyright © 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Vinyl flooring is sometimes referred to as "resilient"Resilience refers to the floor's elasticity or ability to return to its original form after weigh is applied. Resilience is no longer the only reason to purchase vinyl. New technology has allowed for high resolution images and more appealing textures. stones and slate looks to rich, hand-scraped hardwoods, luxury vinyl floors offer Features & Benefits of Luxury Vinyl

Can be installed above, on or below grade over concrete or suspended wood. Luxury Vinyl Tile is one of the best solutions for bathrooms, mud rooms and kitchens. Proven to be significantly warmer than natural stone floors. No more tiptoeing around Softness and resiliency underfoot compared to ceramic or hardwood. Luxury Vinyl is constructed by laying various materials made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) onto a backing material. Once this process is complete, the product undergoes a binding technique under intense heat and pressure. Similar to laminate flooring, the top layer of Luxury Vinyl is referred to as theGenerally, the thicker the wear layer, the more resistant the floor will be against wear and tear. The "type" of wear layer also impacts wear performance. Urethane Wear Layer: A polyvinyl chloride that is more stain and scuff resistant than standard Vinyl No-Wax floors. Advanced Urethane w/ Aluminum Oxide: A more advanced form of urethane, typically

impregnated with aluminum oxide to increase durability and resistance to stainingAluminum oxide is the second hardest element after diamonds. The design and color of vinyl flooring is created through a high resolution image that is printed onto the vinyl surface. Luxury Vinyl is sometimes textured offering a much more realistic look and feel. The core of vinyl flooring is made from vinyl, not fiberboard - as with laminate, providing superior moisture resistance and a softer underfoot floor. Vinyl flooring is incredibly versatile allowing you to install the product almost anywhere in your home. The most common vinyl installation method. A water-based, non-toxic adhesive is used to affix the vinyl to the subfloor. The vinyl flooring is then laid into the adhesive and rolled – pushing out all bubbles and securely adhering the vinyl toNote: Most Luxury Vinyl Tile can be installed with or without grout.
