Established in 1805, the brand has been in Mumbai for a while now with boutiques buzzing with success across the city. With a volley of noble clients like the men of the British Royal Family, Paul McCartney and Frank Sinatra trailing their list, the brand certainly made it to our list when it comes to personal grooming services. Hence, I was more than happy to have received an invitation for a royal haircut at the hands of the top hairstylist of the salon. Even though time may be a luxury to many in the city, sparing an hour for something as imperial and hospitable as the royal hair-cut at Truefitt & Hill should never seem like a time crunch to the busiest.
Upon entering the salon, the warm welcome and the hospitality of the staff assured me of the service I was in to receive. Having booked myself ‘The Royal Haircut’, all it took was five minutes and a piping cup of green tea (which I had requested for) before I headed to level 1 for my hair appointment. So beautiful it was, I can hardly keep myself from speaking about the royal interiors of the salon–let me just say it felt like I was entering the study room of a British noble man. With cigars encased in a corner and swanky wooden and granite finishing all over, all I needed was a butler like Mr Jeeves from the tales of PG Wodehouse to hold my hat and coat. The dream-like situation had, in fact, just begun. Soon I had myself seated on one of the most comfortable and exquisite barber chairs I have ever experienced. With a perfect foot rest and fine upholstery, I sunk in the chair in anticipation of the service to begin. I could hardly wait. To begin with, I was pleasantly surprised as this was for the first time someone actually asked me about the type of hair cut I wanted rather than the hairstyle.
The service began with a comforting hair wash with their exotic fragrant shampoo line, all while the stylist explained to me about what would best suit my tresses and how I could lock-in the moisture in my hair (now, that was quite an insight considering I have rough and unruly hair). While the stylist worked magic on my hair with utmost care and perfection, it felt like the hour just passed in a jiffy and all I had to exclaim at the end was ‘this is exactly what I had in mind!’ And, if you thought that was it, you are highly mistaken. As I said, it was all just the begging; for the Royal Hair Cut involves an elaborate grooming session that begins with a hair wash, haircut, head massage and finally the perfect hair style. Post my massage and the hot towel face rub, I sure was a new person all set to head out and mingle with crème of the city. All in all, the experience was a personality transformation by a mere haircut. If a place nice and quiet is what you’re looking for in comparison to other vibrant and young salons, we totally recommend to you Truefitt & Hill.
