55 posts, read 114,539 times First time poster, long time lurker. I've been trying to decide where to move for the past year (from Cincinnati) and decided on Charlotte- and this board has been an invaluable resource. Thank you to all the regular posters who provide advice and information everyday. Via the search function and browsing, I think I have had every question I could think of answered multiple times. Which is why this is my first post, and not my 200th. I am looking for a place to buy a new, NICE mattress. For instance, when I was in the Navy and moved to Virginia Beach a few years ago, there was multiple stores where the showroom wasnt nice, but the mattresses were new, and cheap. I bought a queen sized Simmons Beautyrest mattress and boxspring (didnt match- didnt matter) for $200 (normally $500-700??). I am trying to find something similar down here. I move to Charlotte Friday, and am planning on going to IKEA and buying all new furniture- but am not buying a mattress there.

Anyone have any ideas or experience with mattress discounter type places? Point me in the right direction? The bed I am buying is low and doesnt need a box spring, so I don't need a set. oh, and the mandatory Charlotte City-Data question answer- Yes I do have a job lined up, I am transferring to start a new office for my company so no need to ask or let me know about the job market. Thanks in advance everyone! 45,266 posts, read 76,486,704 times Originally Posted by big_dish I can highly recommend these guys - they make the mattresses right there in their warehouse and cut out the middle man. Original Mattress Factory | hmmm....haven't heard of anything like that I'm afraid. Hopefully someone will chime in who has. But I'll tell you - the Original Mattress Factory has some pretty good prices, especially is you only want a twin or double.

I named this essay, “Mattress 103” because my intent is to provide you with an information-packed introduction to intelligent mattress shopping. I could’ve called it “Mattress shopping made easy”. But shopping for such a “blind item” is never that easy, even for a so-called expert like myself.  Your chances for finding what you need will be significantly improved when you are armed with facts you will learn in this essay. You are reading this because you need a new mattress and find the shopping process uncomfortable, unpleasant, or hard to understand. Or often all three and more. Mattress makers and retailers deliberately make the buying process more difficult. The less that you know, the more money that they can make.
