Robots indexing pages in search engines save not only the visible content of the page, but also the code used to build the page. That is why you should focus on optimizing the website code first. Here are some practical tips for each of the key SEO coding elements.

Title tags

Title tags are indisputably the most important part of SEO. Most search engines consider the title of a page to describe its content and therefore give it much more importance than the rest of the page.

The title tags are not visible on the page itself, but they do appear in the browser bar and in the user's list of favorite sites. This is also the description your customers will see in the search list.

Tip : Titles of 3 to 10 words are best. If your page contains other information between the tags (e.g. Java script), place the title and meta tags in front of this data so that they are placed higher on the page and therefore read by search engines first.

Look for a CMS system that will allow you to easily add important title tags to your websites.

Meta tags

Some search engines use meta tags in their search results. They are no longer considered as important by search engines as they used to be, and some search engines do not index them at all.

Nevertheless, meta tags still remain an important element of optimization and positioning.

Tip : the descriptions in the meta tags must be attractive enough for your customers to force them to click on the link in the search engine.

They should contain as many keywords as possible - minimum 10, maximum 40 words, with the most important words being entered first.

The right CMS will allow you to edit and update meta tags quickly and without problems.

Dynamic pages

Dynamic pages with "?" are indexed only by Google, because for most search engines the sign "?" is interpreted as a command to abort browsing and indexing the page.

Tip : If the pages on your site are dynamically generated and contain "?" in the address, you can use a program that changes url addresses, replacing usually "?" to "a /." A good CMS will create for you static url addresses that are easy to find and index by search engines.

ALT tags

ALT tags describe the graphic. The problem is that most search engines cannot see words written in graphical form, such as logos or graphical navigation. However, there is still part of the search engines that index these tags.

Tip : Add ALT tags to graphics that contain keywords, but don't add them to purely visual graphics such as page backgrounds. A good CMS will add ALT tags to the graphic without any technical intervention in it.

If your CMS can't do it, don't forget to identify the image as a tag and add keywords to it.

Java scripts

JavaScript is an increasingly popular tool that usually consists of a few lines of code at the top of the page. As a result, the content of the page "in the eyes" of search robots is shifted down and is rated as less important by search engines. Additionally, search engines cannot see links contained in the Java script.

Tip : use external . is files containing your code and refer to them on your website.

You can also include Java script in commenting tags or place it at the bottom of the page. An effective CMS will allow you to easily link to .js files on your pages.

PDF documents

PDF files usually end up in search results, but many search engines cannot read them.

Tip : also prepare the html version of the PDF document and submit it to the search engine. Use important keywords in your PDF titles.

Find a CMS system that will easily convert the HTML version to PDF at the client's request - thanks to this you will avoid duplicating content that search engines do not like so much.

CSS

CSS controls the functioning of html tags and manages the display of text on the page, mainly through specific fonts that look the same in every browser.

Tip : use external stylesheets to reduce the amount of code contained in the page. Search engines cannot see CSS, so the content of the page appears higher and does not lose its validity.

By controlling the appearance of tags, the keywords appearing in them will also be considered by search engines to be more significant.

A good CMS will allow you to use CSS without limiting the page layout and its graphics.
