.notable Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 21, 2026(Previous version: May 19, 2026)
Overview
.notable is an offline-first note-taking app. It does not collect, transmit, or share anypersonal data. All information stays on your device unless you explicitly choose to export it.
1. Information We Collect
We collect nothing.
No account, registration, or internet connection is required to use .notable.
The app does not contact any server, analytics service, or third-party API.
2. Data Storage
All notes, folders, and settings are stored locally in a SQLite database on your device. You have full control over this data at all times.
Encryption (new in v1.1.0)
Individual notes can optionally be encrypted using AES-256. When encryption is enabled for a note:
- The encryption key is derived mathematically from the note's creation timestamp. No key is generated externally, stored separately, or transmitted anywhere.
- The encrypted content is stored only on your device.
- Encryption is entirely optional and controlled by you.
3. Biometric Authentication (new in v1.1.0)
The app supports fingerprint and face authentication as an optional unlock method, using your device's built-in biometric hardware.
- .notable does not access, read, store, or transmit your biometric data (fingerprints, face geometry, etc.).
- Authentication is handled entirely by your operating system (Android BiometricPrompt / iOS LocalAuthentication). The app only receives a true or false result.
- Biometric unlock is optional. PIN-based unlock remains available at all times.
4. Export and Sharing (new in v1.1.0)
.notable includes an optional export feature that lets you share notes with other apps or people.
- Share as plain text — sends note content through your device's standard share sheet. The destination is chosen entirely by you.
- Share as .notable file — exports note content to a temporary local file with light character-substitution encoding, then shares it through your device's share sheet.
- No data leaves your device automatically. Export only occurs when you explicitly tap the share button and confirm an action.
- The developer has no visibility into what you share, with whom, or where exported files are stored.
5. Reminders and Notifications (new in v1.1.1)
.notable includes an optional reminder feature that lets you set a notification for any note at a time you choose.
- Reminders are scheduled locally on your device using the system alarm manager. No data is sent to any server.
- Scheduled reminders are automatically restored after a device restart so you never miss a reminder you set.
- All notification content (note title and reminder time) stays on your device at all times.
- Reminders are entirely optional and can be cancelled at any time from
within the app.
6. No Third-Party Services
.notable does not use:
- Analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
- Advertising networks
- Cloud storage or sync services
- Any remote server or API
The only device permissions the app requests are those required for its core features:
PermissionPurposeUSE_BIOMETRIC / USE_FINGERPRINTOptional biometric unlockStorage (via system share sheet)Writing temporary export files
7. Permissions
The app requests only the permissions required for its core features:
Permission | Purpose
-----------------------|--------------------------------------------------
USE_BIOMETRIC | Optional biometric unlock for private notebooks
USE_FINGERPRINT | Optional biometric unlock for private notebooks
POST_NOTIFICATIONS | Sending reminder notifications for notes
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM | Delivering reminders at the exact time you set
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | Restoring scheduled reminders after device restart
VIBRATE | Haptic feedback when a Pomodoro session ends
8. Data Deletion
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by:
- Deleting individual notes or folders within the app
- Uninstalling the app (removes all app data)
9. Children's Privacy
.notable does not target children and does not knowingly collect data from any user, regardless of age.
10. Future Updates
If future versions introduce optional features that involve any form of data leaving your device (e.g., cloud sync), this policy will be updated before those features ship, and you will be notified inside the app.
