عباس دریس

Abbas Deris, a father of three, witnessed and survived the Mahshahr massacre at a time before the 2019 Movement for Women's Freedom of Life in Iran. The 2019 protests marked the beginning of a long-term revolutionary process.

However, as one of the few witnesses to this horrific event, he was arrested and charged with attacking armed security forces. Although there is still no concrete evidence of a crime, he was convicted and given the death penalty.

His sentence comes in a grim context in which the Islamic regime seeks to eliminate people who might bear witness to their atrocities. #abbasderis ' innocence is accompanied by his tragic fate - after his conviction, his wife suffered a heart attack and died. His children, now orphans, are desperately calling for justice.

The world must focus its attention on this case. The international community should condemn the Islamic regime and exert political pressure to ensure that innocent people like Abbas Deris do not continue to be victims of repression and waves of extermination. Political intervention and solidarity are needed to raise awareness of the grave human rights violations in Iran and to protect those who suffer under the arbitrary system.
