Lego announced Tuesday that a new set will feature some of the pioneering women who played vital but sometimes under-appreciated roles in the U.S. space program. The figures have been commissioned under the toy maker's Lego Ideas series that allows fans to propose concepts for new sets. The "Women of NASA" set was designed by science writer Maia Weinstock, the deputy editor of MIT News, and pitched with the headline "Ladies rock outer space!" Among Weinstock's figures are Sally Ride, the first American woman in space; Nancy Grace Roman, who's known as the "mother" of the Hubble Space Telescope; and Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman in space. Also included are Margaret Hamilton and Katherine Johnson, whose work helped put the first people on the moon. Weinstock said the set celebrates the NASA scientists' careers and "provides an educational building experience to help young ones and adults alike learn about the history of women" in science and technology. Lego has been criticized in the past for a lack of professional female characters, most famously in a letter from a 7-year-old fan in 2014.

"All the girls did was sit at home, go to bed and shop, and they had no jobs but the boys went on adventures, worked, saved people," Charlotte Benjamin wrote. In response, Lego released a limited edition "Research Institute" set designed by geophysicist Ellen Kooijman that featured three female scientists -- a paleontologist, an astronomer and a chemist. Lego said it's still figuring out the final design and price for the "Women of NASA" set. It's planning to release it late this year or early in 2018. But it's not clear if it will be a limited edition set like the "Research Institute." In the meantime, enjoy their awesome new Lego sets! Thanks to the Lego enthusiast community over at Eurobricks, we’ve gotten an early look at three of the larger Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 sets they’ll be releasing.

The smallest of the three — and the only one so far that includes a new Rocket Raccoon minifig — is Ravager Attack. In addition to Rocket, the set also comes with Taserface (played by Chris Sullivan in the new movie) and Mantis (who was at one time listed as the 99th sexiest lady in comics by Comics Buyer’s Guide). Also included: a functional stud-blasting minigun. Next up is Ayesha’s Revenge. It’s a mid-sized set that scores you yet another Chris Pratt minifig for your collection as well as the scarlet-mohawked Yondu and Ayesha Herself. It’s an alias thing. Last but certainly not least is The Milano vs. The Abilisk. This is the marquee attraction of the new Lego Guardians sets, featuring an overhauled version of the team’s ship — which of course is receiving mixed reviews from fans. It’s a good-sized build. The Milano has room for four minifigs… say, maybe Star-Lord, Gamorra, Drax, and Rocket (who you’ll have to acquire elsewhere). You can probably shove Baby Groot in somewhere, too.

It’s not like he takes up much space. There will no doubt be additional sets. It’s unlikely that Lego wouldn’t offer some smaller, impulse buy-type sets to capitalize on the launch of a new Marvel film. And now, here they are in all their glory! The Milano vs. The AbiliskAll good super hero movies need a good villain. For Guardians Vol. 2, that's the Abillisk: a pink, fleshy, multi-tentacled interdimensional nightmare. It's probably nothing the Guardians and The Milano can't handle... Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Baby Groot, and Nebula minifigs are included. 2. The Milano vs. The AbiliskThe movie version of The Abilisk will be a whole lot bigger and more disturbing, but hey, kids play with these things.Ayesha's RevengeAyesha has made appearances in the Marvel Universe under a number of different names -- Her, Kismet, Paragon. In this set, she joins Star-Lord, Groot, and Yondu for a bit of... well... revenge, obviously. 5. Ravager AttackThe smallest of the leaked Guardians Vol. 2 sets, this one finally includes Rocket... as well as that handsome devil Taserface and the "99th sexiest woman in comics," Mantis.

Star Wars: Rogue One opens in just 1 month, and there are plenty of LEGO sets to go along with it as the LEGO Star Wars line stays as strong as ever. In fact, many of the current Rogue One sets are already on sale! This new wave of sets should make its debut early next year (if not sooner), and includes some classic vehicles fans will recognize from the original trilogy, such as the Y-Wing Starfighter. There’s also a new wave of chibi microfighters for young and old fans alike to swoosh about, as well as more large buildable-action figures.
