The Cannes Film Festival is a grand event for the whole world, which is annually held in Cannes, France.
As we all know nowadays everything is inseparably combined with world’s political and social situation , and there is no excuses for Cannes.
Social and economical problems of Europe could be used by rebels, who may represent communistic views. The reason for that is the 50th anniversary from the day, when left opposition activists disrupted the whole festival in order to draw the attention of community to the problems with which France was fighting in 1968. Imagine: morning, fresh air and sunny weather, everyone is looking forward to watch the premiere of “Mint Frappe”. Suddenly Roman Polanski and well-known directors Jean-Luc Godard, Francois Truffaut and Claude Lelouch interrupt the whole process. They just didn’t let the film appear on the screen in the hall of Palais des Festivals et des Congres. As a result, the festival was closed. So, this year organizers ought to be super attentive about the festival’s program to avoid deja vu.
Another reason for worrying for them is protests like #MeToo and #TimesUp. Many participants are in favor of the modern rallies and some of them even prepared a new black dress to show up their position. At the same time others would prefer to stay away from the gender fight. So, it is clear that all the films like “Demolition man”, “Nightingale” and “Vision” must be on equal terms with others.
Nonetheless, we don’t have anything to worry about. Our task is to wait until the 8th of May and follow Cannes from the mobile’s screens. Oh, and, of course, to enjoy the celebration of talent and beauty.
