In my experience the EF 85/1.8 gets some pretty extreme color fringing on contrasting edges unless you stop it down a good bit. If you want to do portraits on a crop sensor camera I think a 50/1.8 is worth considering.

Sigma makes an 85mm f/1.4 Art lens; I haven't used the 85mm specifically, but I have their 28mm f/1.4 Art and it's arguably my favorite prime that I own, so if the 85mm is anywhere near that quality, it'll be a fine choice. Canon's EF 85mm f/1.8 USM is more basic, but nice and quick to focus and still looks pretty good in my opinion.
