LEGO® Minifigures Series 10Warning!FIND MORE PRODUCTS LIKE THISMinifiguresCollect every mystery minifigure in the exciting new Series 10!To celebrate the tenth series of LEGO Minifigures, LEGO decided to do something special for their fans by creating a special edition minifigure: the elusive Mr Gold. Only 5,000 Mr Golds were made, before being hidden in packs and distributed across the world. To celebrate this release, LEGO asked us to make a game to promote Mr Gold and the sixteen other new minifigures. They wanted to ensure that we included an element of hide-and-seek, or searching, for Mr Gold and we also had to make sure that although he was often visible throughout the game, the players would have to work hard to find him. One of our first ideas was to go for a Where's Wally style game, where we'd hide Mr Gold amongst groups of other minifigures; but we eventually decided that the best way to showcase each of the minifigures would be to create a multi-level platform game, where each of the characters had their own level.

In order to play as the next character, the player would have to collect the parts to construct them. As you'd imagine, with collectability playing a huge role in LEGO’s appeal, the client was very enthusiastic about this. Style-wise, we decided to keep it incredibly simple, so that the focus could be on the minifigures themselves. This enabled us to focus on level design. Each level was more difficult than the last and as the game progressed, different obstacles were introduced. We tested and tweaked each level to perfection and ensured that the degree of difficulty was right. The aim was to make each level completable, but to ensure it wasn't too easy. Who doesn’t like a good challenge? Mr Gold proved to be a hugely popular game and was featured on the LEGO homepage for over a month. As toy fads come and go, one company continues to design products that are simultaneously addicting, challenging and boatloads of fun for both kids and adults. We're talking, of course, about Lego.

Though Lego's tiny, interlocking bricks have provided hours of entertainment to millions of people since 1949, it's the minifigure, first released in 1978, that brought life to this childhood favorite. Each series contains sixteen collectable figures which come is sealed mystery bags. Although the toys are still considered very popular Lego have come up with an idea to give Series 10 some special significance. So we are likely to see some of these rare Mr Gold figures turning up in some unusual locations. So in reality what are the chances of you opening a mystery bag and finding one of these rare figures? Well the odds are not in your favour. Lego sell millions of these figures every year and so the odds of finding one are extremely low. Even if you opened every packet in one of the cases that you find in the stores, chances are you will be disappointed. Hundreds of thousands of these cases ship all over the world, so there is no way of pin pointing where the gold figures could be. Well one option is to spend thousands of pounds buying Lego Minifigures and hoping for the best, the more sensible option is to head to eBay. A clever move that Lego have also announced is the fact that with each limited edition Golden Minifigure there will be a special code provided. This means the new owner can log onto the website and record where they found their rare figure. This will be very interesting to watch as it means we should be able to keep track of how many figures have been found and how many are still out there waiting to be opened. It reminds us of the Golden Ticket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As to exactly what the new limited edition figure will look like this is now confirmed and we do have a picture up of the rare Mr Gold minifigure. As you can see he looks like quite a cheeky chappy and he is sure to be very popular with fans. Series 10 of the Lego Minifigures go on sale in May so it should be soon after that when we start seeing the first gold figures turn up. Along with the rare figure there are of course going to be sixteen other figures and some of these include ones such as Medusa, a Sad Clown, Bumblebee Girl, a Paintball Player and a Tomahawk Warrior.

This series looks like being a very good one and the fact that there is now going to be a rare seventeenth figure only increases the level of anticipation around these new collectables. So whether you buy these Lego men just for fun or you are a serious collector I am sure you will agree that finding one of these rare Mr Gold Minifigures from Series 10 would be very exciting indeed.
