(Image credit: Maxwell Ryan) Bed: Loom & Leaf Memory Foam Bed My Year In Bed (YIB) just keeps going as I keep getting requests to try more mattresses. This one is also from a new company, Saatva, who has just launched a new brand, Loom & Leaf, a line of memory foam mattresses to pair with their traditional spring models. While not a big fan of memory foam in general, I found this bed very comfortable and not at all the "sink into it and get stuck" type of foam bed. It's soft on top and similar to a sprung model in its overall firmness. It's also very well priced for the category. Saatva with their regular brand and now their Loom & Leaf memory foam brand is a very new company that is disrupting the mattress business by cutting out the middleman and selling direct to consumers online. This is not a new idea, but they have quickly expanded from traditional to foam mattresses in order to stay ahead of the competition. While skeptical last year, having not heard of Saatva, I do think that they are delivering a great bed at this price point and higher.

I've had friends purchase Loom & Leaf recently as well and they give it very high marks. Apparently the mattress industry needs a little shaking up! I slept really well. I tested the Relaxed Firm (their softest), because I wanted it to be on the softer side and it was NOT soft, but it was pleasantly cushy on top and NOT hot at all. I sleep most of the night on my back, then switch to my side in the morning and both ways were comfortable. Loom & Leaf only has two firmnesses, and they apparently aim to please those (ie. most Americans) that like firmer beds as it really was medium to firm in my book. NOTE: This is totally unlike a Tempur-Pedic memory foam bed in which you have one highly responsive foam layer that wraps around your body when you lie down. You lie ON this bed and not IN it, so if you really like that Tempur feeling, this bed is not for you. Surprisingly and pleasantly there was absolutely no off-gassing smell the first night I was on the bed, which is common with memory foam beds.

(Image credit: Maxwell Ryan) Loom & Leaf has put all their best materials up top, close to your body to give you the memory foam experience as well as make sure that you touch good, organic cotton and not polyester should you slip below the sheets. In that way this bed is very much a hybrid meant to draw in those that like a bit of memory foam, but not scare anyone away. The memory foam is on top, the rest is just a good foam. The bed is made of four layers: They've gone very far, as well, to make sure that the mattress is healthy. They only use plant-based foams and non-toxic medical grade gel so there are no PBDE flame retardants or formaldehydes and only low VOC's. The quality and feel of the outside mattress is extremely nice and they are right in saying that it seems much more luxurious than what you'd expect for just under $1k. Where Saatva really excels is on price, and they do a good job of getting this claim out front. For the money you are definitely getting a lot of mattress and you really would have to spend a lot more to beat this offering.

Most mattresses under $1,000 are not half as good, and those that cost twice as much are just as good. (Image credit: Maxwell Ryan) Need to Buy a Mattress? Read This Before You DoWhy doesn't Angie's List rate attorneys?Landscaping: What do your neighbors do that drives you crazy? How much does it cost to be a member here? How much does it typically cost to paint a 2100 square foot house on the exterior? That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor. On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor. For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too. That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used. FIND THE RIGHT SIZE BED I was apprehensive about buying a mattress online, but after research and consumer reports review, we decided to purchase. It arrived quickly and was very easy to unbox. I did not notice any chemical smells and we slept on it the same night. We previously had a very squishy pillow top so the transition to memory foam was different the first night. I am a light weight side sleeper and the husband can sleep in any position. We are both very pleased with the mattress and have noticed improvement in some achy backs. Perhaps our previous mattress was just too soft. Get one of these. The process couldn't be any easier, and it's so comfortable. Just ordered the pet bed because my dog loves my new bed so much I can never get her off! I love my Casper! I was on vacation for a few weeks and missed my new mattress the whole time.

It only took two nights for my body to adjust. I sleep on my side mostly and the first night my shoulders and arms continuously went numb which worried me quite a bit. All that needed adjusting was my pillow and now I sleep solidly every night. My partner and I never feel each other moving around which is a much better experience than our last mattress. I would definitely recommend Casper to anyone who likes a firm yet pillowy mattress. Oh and the unpacking process was pretty fun. It's hard to believe a King sized mattress can come in such small packaging. Amazing company to do business with! My mattress came in less than a week and I loved it...unfortunately my wife did not so we returned it. The customer service was the best experience I've ever had. Casper setup the return pickup and had it scheduled just 2 days after I decided to make my wife happy. I received an email conformation stating my refund was already in process the very next day after the pickup. Great product and even better customer service!!!
