Just so happens that while he was at it he constructed a spectacular classic VW themed workshop to go with it… Entitled ‘Garage Life’ Andrea has painstakingly made just about everything you would expect in a period workshop from LEGO, including an engine hoist, trolley jack, tool boxes and even a period Castrol Oil sign for the wall, not forgetting a sink and fire extinguisher. Detail to the ‘exterior’ of the workshop is just outstanding with a distinctive classic look to the building and several amazingly authentic looking VW Service signs. Said top LEGO custom build legend Andrea on his flickr site: “Besides my passion for LEGO I’ve always been involved in vintage cars and for this reason, after having spent the last few years almost exclusively building 1/13 scale trucks, last winter I devoted myself to a new project: a workshop for the vintage VW Transporter.” “The idea comes out from LEGO set 10220 which I bought in 2011 which remained MISB (Mint In Sealed Box) until a few months ago.
Personally I prefer working vehicles so I transformed it into a canvas pickup.” If you look closely at the custom version, it’s got two side doors below the load compartment, two shovels for road emergencies, two spare wheels, a fuel tank, a wooden box and various tools on the cab-mounted roof rack. The eagle eyed among you will also pick up on the fact that Andrea’s version has two Hella lights mounted on the bumper. Of course, once the transformation had been made from camper to ‘Road Service’ vehicle had been made, Andrea needed a suitable base from which it would operate. Hence the idea of constructing an accompanying LEGO workshop. Said Andrea: “In order to get the inside details of the workshop just right I took inspiration from a real garage where I used to spend a lot of time restoring and repairing old motorcycles and bicycles.” The plan is to make more customised VW models from LEGO to share the workshop space so look out for some of Andrea’s new creations coming sometime soon…

Niet een bom, dé bom. Sorry voor de verwarring in deze barre tijden. Man, man, man, je hoeft maar ‘bom’ te roepen en iedereen begint te rennen. Maar laten we dat barre idee even loslaten en ons focussen op de betere zaken in de wereld, zoals deze Volkswagen Transporter T3 Doka Synchro. De Transporter T3 is de laatste van de Type 2 Transporters. Ja, we zijn inmiddels al bij de zesde generatie Volkswagen Transporter aanbeland, een legendarische auto waar soms wel eens een agent in vast komt te zitten. De eerste drie generaties stonden bij Volkswagen echter intern bekend als de type 2. Dat zit zo: onze nationale trots Ben Pon zag in de Volkswagen-fabriek transportwagentjes rijden op basis van Kever-techniek. Hij maakte een paar schetsen van een busje, liet die zien aan de VW-bonzen en die waren zo enthousiast dat ze naast de Type 1 (de Kever) Ben’s auto ook gingen fabriceren.
Zo werd de Type 2 geboren. Collega @dizono wist je daar eerder al wat over te vertellen in dit relaas over een auto die absoluut geen Volkswagen Transporter is. Waar er echter voor de T1’s en T2’s inmiddels ontzettend hoge bedragen neergeteld worden door oldtimers die terugwillen naar hun jeugd, kan je de T3 overal nog voor een appel en een ei oppikken. Eigenlijk heb je dan alle charme van zo’n type 2 bus met de motor achterin, maar zonder het absurde kostenplaatje. Sterker nog, met zijn ronde koplampen, blokkige koets en dito lampclusters achter, is de T3 gewoon veel stoerder dan zo’n ronde T1 of T2. Kever-liefhebber @dizono vind deze T3 met Syncro dan ook helemaal de bom en dat ben ik volledig met hem eens. De beschrijving van de auto op Marktplaats, heeft dan ook een gepast aantal uitroeptekens. Te koop dikke T3 Syncro 2.1 benzine dus een echte 4 WD met verhoogde vering!!! Nieuwe banden en velgen !!! Schokbrekers en veren zijn nieuw ook hogere veren!!!!
