POLICE are hoping the public can help them piece together the identity of a man believed responsible for a series of ram raids and Lego thefts.The brick-loving thief targeted toy stores in Melbourne’s East last week.Police media spokesman Leading Senior Constable Paul Turner said the man was suspected of being behind an attempted burglary at a store on South Gippsland Highway, Cranbourne on January 10 between 6.10am and 6.20am.“It’s believed the unknown offender attempted to ram a rear door of the store before trying to force locks to two shipping containers.”But he could not get into the store or shipping containers and left empty-handed in a dark-coloured Nissan utility.media_cameraPolice wish to speak to this man in relation to a series of ram raids and Lego thefts. It’s understood the unknown offender managed to manipulate a lock to the store inside a Burwood Highway shopping centre and stole two trolley loads of Lego before driving away in a black Nissan Navara utility,” Mr Turner said.And detectives were investigating a ram raid at a Bentleigh East toy store on January 12 when a dark coloured Nissan Navara Ute reversed into the front doors of a Centre Road toy store about 4.50am before driving off.In CCTV video, under the watchful eye of a large Lego policeman poster in the window, a man wearing high-vis workers clothing approaches the premises.”“A man, believed to be the driver, returned to the store about ten minutes later.“He attempted to gain entry through the damaged door but failed and fled empty-handed,” Mr Turner said.Police believed the same man was involved in a theft from the same store on January 9 when a Lego toy set was stolen about 10am.“Investigators believe all incidents are linked,” Mr Turner said.Police have released CCTV and images of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries and a vehicle seen nearby at the time of the Knox incident.
