Coming to video game consoles in June 2016. Rowan Freemaker isn’t ready to save the galaxy from the Emperor Palpatine. But he doesn’t have really have a choice in the trailer for Disney XD’s new series, LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the action comedy series follows the Freemakers, a family of sibling scavengers who operate a salvage and repair shop in space, and features Star Wars heroes and villains from across the saga. Given the brief look at Rowan, the galaxy in the pre-Luke-in-black world was in tenuous hands. A description of the importance of finding kyber crystals from the first-ever lightsaber before Palpatine does prompts this reply: “That was a lot of words, and my mind wandered in the middle.”

At least he’s Force inclined. The characters pantomimed their way through familiar adventures, and even made the prequel trilogy seem somehow endearing. From there, TT Games was able to expand the gameplay and the charm of the LEGO video game formula—solve puzzles and smash every thing—to where it was able to stand on its own without the Star Wars brand.

But when Star Wars: The Force Awakens was announced and there was no word of an accompanying LEGO game, I was a bit surprised. The release of the film came and went, and there was still no news about a LEGO video game tie-in. But now patience has been rewarded as Warner Bros. Interactive has announced LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and released a trailer that brings the same level of lightheartedness we’ve come to expect from these games. Additionally, the press release reveals that the game will include “new story content exploring the time between Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, providing additional insight about the new movie and its characters.”  Whether that’s any substantive or if it’s just a collection of visual gags remains to be seen. Check out the trailer below, which also announces that the game will be released on June 28th (should we expect the Blu-ray for the film around the same time? LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Windows PC.
