The U.S. Capitol Lego set includes over 1,000 pieces(Credit: Lego)Lego has unveiled another product in its popular architecture series. The U.S. Capitol kit will allow you to recreate the seat of the United States Congress, brick-by-brick. It's available on September 1 and will set you back US$99.99.President George Washington laid the cornerstone of the Capitol back in September 18, 1793, and while the neoclassical building has seen many architectural changes over the intervening centuries, it has remained one of the country's most iconic buildings. The U.S. Capitol Lego set includes over 1,000 pieces and rises to a modest height of 6 in (16 cm), with width and depth coming in at 17 in (44 cm) and 5 in (14 cm), respectively. Lego made an effort to get the detailing right, and the kit includes everything required to build the facade, dome, steps, north and south wings, colonnades, and lawns. In a nice touch, the dome is removable and lifting it reveals a peek of the National Statuary Hall rotunda, complete with tiled floor, columns, and eight statue pieces.

A booklet is included detailing information about the design, architecture and history of the Capitol.LEGO enthusiasts will soon be able to construct, for the first time, a scale LEGO model of one of Washington D.C.’s most iconic landmarks, the U.S. Capitol building. After a long embargo, LEGO Architecture will launch the set online and in stores on Sept. 1st. The set includes 1,032 pieces and doubles as a history lesson, thanks to the enclosed pamphlet that explains the building’s long architectural history. The real-life Capitol building is a prime example of neoclassical architecture, spanning more than 1.5 million square feet with over 600 rooms and miles of corridors. Like many other sets in the LEGO Architecture line, the U.S. Capitol set gives pint-sized builders a chance at an up-close look at the exterior and interior of the historic building. The set features over 1,000 pieces, including realistic representations, on a small scale, of the building’s facade, dome, colonnades, north and south wings, steps and lawns.

When the dome is removed, LEGO enthusiasts and budding architecture students gain access to the National Statuary Hall (aka the rotunda), complete with columns, eight statue elements, and a tiled floor. LEGO’s U.S. Capitol set measures six inches high, 17 inches wide, and five inches deep. The model’s scale cleverly matches LEGO’s Lincoln Memorial set, enticing builders to recreate the Washington Mall in their living room. The Capitol set is the latest in LEGO’s growing Architecture collection, which includes prominent landmark buildings from around the world, including the Empire State Building and other New York spots, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, and the Louvre. The LEGO U.S. Capitol set goes on sale Sept. 1, 2016, and will retail for $99.99.
