The Lego Batman Movie The Lego Batman Movie Consumer AdviceMild themes and animated violence Release Date30 March 2017 Available in 2D and 3D In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble—LEGO® Batman—stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up. Will Arnett reprises his starring role from “The LEGO Movie” as the voice of LEGO Batman, aka Bruce Wayne. Zach Galifianakis (the “Hangover” films, “Muppets Most Wanted”) stars as The Joker; Michael Cera (TV’s “Arrested Development”) as the orphan Dick Grayson; Rosario Dawson (TV’s “Daredevil”) as Barbara Gordon; and Ralph Fiennes (the “Harry Potter” films) as Alfred.

“The LEGO Batman Movie” is directed by Chris McKay, and produced by Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Roy Lee, who worked together on “The LEGO Movie.” Jill Wilfert, Matthew Ashton, Will Allegra and Brad Lewis serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Seth Grahame-Smith and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers and Jared Stern & John Whittington, story by Seth Grahame-Smith, based on LEGO Construction Toys and based on characters from DC Entertainment. Batman was created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger; Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Production designer Grant Freckelton and editor David Burrows also return from “The LEGO Movie,” joined by editors Matt Villa, and John Venzon. The music is composed by Lorne Balfe. From Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Animation Group, in association with LEGO System A/S, a Lin Pictures / Lord Miller / Vertigo Entertainment production, “The LEGO Batman Movie” will open in theaters in 3D, 2D and IMAX.

It will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. Warner Bros. announced today that they have set the film for a February 28th, 2014 release and they have confirmed that it will be in 3D.

Hit the jump for more, including what competition the pic will face on that date. Lord and Miller previously talked to Steve about the film early last month, confirming that they were getting ready to start casting (about 20% of the film will be live-action) and revealing that there will be some IP LEGO characters popping up in the film (ie. LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO Star Wars, etc.).  The two also revealed that the film takes place in an immersive all-LEGO environment, “to the point where if there’s water or clouds or like a big explosion, that will be made out of animated LEGOs.” Though it was pretty much a given that the film would be in 3D since it’s computer-animated, I actually think this environment that Lord and Miller are creating could lend itself to a great 3D experience.  They described their approach as “super charged stop-motion, something like if Michael Bay kidnapped Henry Selick to make a movie for him,” so expect some fantastic 3D LEGO action in February of 2014.

Speaking of the release date, the only other film currently slated for February is the sequel Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers.  Lord and Miller are only serving as producers on the Cloudy sequel, but if these two films live up to the quality of 21 Jump Street and the first Cloudy, we’re in for a very fun February.  Read the full press release below. BURBANK, CA, April 23, 2012 — The first-ever full length, theatrical LEGO® movie will open nationwide on February 28, 2014, it was announced today by Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. Currently in production, the 3D computer animated adventure will be directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller from their original screenplay, story by Dan Hageman & Kevin Hageman and Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, based on LEGO Construction Toys.  It will incorporate some of the LEGO world’s most popular figures while introducing several new characters, inviting fans who have enjoyed the brand’s innovative toys and hugely popular video games for generations to experience their visually unique LEGO world as never seen before.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller previously teamed on the hit “21 Jump Street” and the 2009 animated comedy adventure “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” which was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. The film will be produced by Dan Lin (“Sherlock Holmes,” “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”) and Roy Lee (“The Departed,” “How to Train Your Dragon”).The Lego Batman Movie 3D Bruce Wayne must not only deal with the criminals of Gotham City, but also the responsibility of raising a boy he adopted. The adaptation is now under construction, with Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) attached to direct.Producers Roy Lee (Lego Movie) and Jill Messick (Mean Girls) are also behind the property. We still don't know much about the film's plot, or anything really. An IMDb page only states that it is a feature film based on the popular video game. That said, in February, Lee hinted the filmmakers and game designers were collaborating. He emphasised Mojang was very involved in the development:"So [Mojang] know everything is going to be in the movie that can give us insight into future updates, so we can put things into the movie around the same time they relaunch newer versions of the game and at the same time, potentially taking ideas from the movie and putting them into the game. So, I don’t know exactly what things are going into the game, but they know exactly what’s going into the movie.”In 2014, Mojang announced that the original PC version of its open-ended sandbox game reached 100 million registered users.
