This will mark the second appearance of Marvel characters in a LEGO game, as the characters were not included in the recently released toys-to-life game LEGO Dimensions.
It was disappointing, though not entirely surprising considering TT is owned by Warner Bros. The upcoming LEGO Marvel title, one of our most anticipated of 2016, will not be a sequel to the previously released LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, but will instead adhere to the overarching plotlines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The game will include over 200 playable Marvel characters, including newcomers like Kamala Khan, the new Ms. Marvel. While the game promises to be one of the biggest LEGO titles yet, Warner Bros. Interactive is already looking to the future. Today, the publisher announced two new DLC (downloadable content) packs coming to the game, one based on the upcoming Captain America: Civil War and the other based on the latest Marvel film Ant-Man. Both packs will be available for free, for a limited time, exclusively on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Available on launch day, the Civil War DLC pack doesn’t contain any new levels, in the interest avoiding spoilers for the film.
Instead, the pack only features nine playable characters: Iron Man (MK 46) The Ant-Man DLC pack isn’t scheduled to be released until later in the spring, but the pack will be more substantial than its predecessor. In addition to more playable characters, the pack will feature a new level from the film – most likely with an emphasis on the characters’ shrinking mechanic. The characters included are: The Wasp (Janet Van Dyne) Most importantly, players will have the opportunity to fly Ant-Thony around the Ant-Man level as well as bring him into the main game. Perhaps the strangest character to be included in the DLC pack is Cassie Lang, Scott’s young daughter. She does eventually grow up to be a superhero in her own right, code-named Stature, but that character will be included in the main game. It’s unknown what abilities Cassie will have in the game, but the film version doesn’t have powers so far in the MCU. With the release of these two DLC packs, the total number of films explored in LEGO Marvel’s Avengers is now eight – with the other, previously announced titles being both Avengers films, Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3.
There’s no word yet on other, future additions to the game, but with Doctor Strange coming up later in the year, there’s a good chance the title character will be featured in a DLC pack of his own. LEGO Marvel’s Avengers launches on January 26th, 2016 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and PC.LEGO Marvel's Avengers is nearly here, and that mean's it's time to figure out your platform and retailer of choice when it comes to preordering and picking up the game. As is the case with most video game releases, LEGO Marvel's Avengers has some exclusive preorder bonuses and content depending on who you preorder the game from and what platform you do it on. That's why we've gathered up all the news in one spot to make figuring out where to shop a little easier. New characters, levels and an exclusive minifigure are all up for grabs, so be sure to read carefully. If you're a serious brick collector, GameStop will likely be your retailer of choice when it comes to buying LEGO Marvel's Avengers.
As is the case with numerous other LEGO game releases at the retailer, GameStop will be giving out an exclusive minifig to those who preorder the game on any console (while supplies last, of course). Preordering the game from Best Buy for any console (except the Nintendo 3DS version) will score you the Thunderbolts DLC pack, which adds seven new characters to the game. If you aren't familiar with the Thunderbolts, they are a superhero team that is actually comprised of supervillains in disguise. You'll get Citizen V, Atlas, Mach 5, Songbird, Meteorite, Techno and Jolt for preordering. Two free DLC packs will be coming free of charge to all PlayStation gamers. The first will be the Captain America: Civil War character pack, which adds nine Civil War movie versions of various characters, including Captain America, Falcon, Iron Man, Winter Soldier, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, Black Panther, Crossbones and Agent 13. The Captain America: Civil War character pack will be available at launch.
The other free DLC is based on Ant-Man, and will be coming in the spring. It will add a new level inspired by the movie, as well as new characters in the form of Ant-Man (Scott Lang), Ant-Man (Hank Pym), Ant-Thony (Flying Ant), Cassie Lang, Darren Cross, Scott Lang, Hank Pym, Hope Van Dyne, Luis, The Wasp (Janet Van Dyne), and Yellowjacket. Each of these DLC packs are "timed" exclusives, which mean they will eventually be released on other platforms as well. Buying the game's $10 season pass will net you 40 new characters and five new levels based off Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and classic comic book storylines once all the content is released. For those who hate waiting, buying the pass grants instant access to the Avengers Explorer Character Pack, which includes alternate character costumes such as Scuba Captain America and Space Iron Man.
