And since this is Legoland, they did it not with a simple press release, but with a staged media event in the early hours before the park opened to guests. Journalists who dragged themselves down U.S. Highway 27 at dawn were rewarded with the following presentation, which was so absurdly earnest that it could be mistaken for an SNL parody:
Cheesiness aside, the meat of the announcement is that Legoland Florida is getting five birthday presents over the next year, ranging from a modest boat-building activity and updated shows to a major new ride and a brand-new onsite hotel. I’m most excited for Ninjago, a gesture-based interactive shooting dark ride that I previewed at IAAPA, and while the Legoland Beach Resort doesn’t look like it will outdo Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort, who wouldn’t want to sleep inside a LEGO bungalow? Here’s the complete breakdown, direct from Legoland: LEGOLAND Beach Retreat – opening mid-2017 This whimsically themed vacation resort combines the fun of surf, sand and sun with the creativity of LEGO® bricks on a picturesque site next to Lake Dexter, adjacent to the theme park. Nearby, the existing Imagination Station lets little ones build and play with colorful DUPLO® bricks in a water-filled activity center.
