The character grid can be broken up into categories, in the following order:-Story mode heroes (unlocked by playing through the main game)-Other heroes (unlocked by buying them from the gold brick gates scattered throughout Gotham, usually up on buildings-you'll need a certain number of gold bricks for each, running all the way up to all 250 for the last one)-Villains (appear in Gotham after activating the remote bat-terminals around the city, must be fought and beaten to purchase)-Alter-egos and civilians (also purchased by building gates-these are usually on ground level and tend to run a bit cheaper then the superhero gates)-Goons (found throughout the city in groups, cleaning out an attacking gang will usually prompt the last one to surrender and let you purchase him)The far left and right columns of the grid are custom characters.
They're unlocked by checking out the left side of the Batcave once you've beaten the story, though to the best of my knowledge you don't have to mess with them at all for this achievement (there is one for using a test character, however).Beyond that, here's a list of the characters, where to find most of 'em, and what they're used for in terms of abilities/achievements. Did not mark all the specific locations/brick requirements on the gates as I went along, unfortunately.Top row:Batman-Unlocked after story level 1Robin-Unlocked after story level 1Superman-Unlocked after story level 8 (though you'll play as him in level 5 and get him in free roam after level 7, it's not until level 8 that he's actually added to the grid)Green Lantern-Unlocked after level 14Cyborg-Unlocked after level 14Flash-Unlocked after level 15Wonder Woman-Unlocked after level 15Martian Manhunter-Found in a gold brick gate, northwest part of the central island. Needed for some minikits and a citizen in peril (stands in for water-walking and water-spraying when Robin's Hazard Suit isn't available).Hawkman-Found in a gold brick gate.Second row:Hawkgirl-Found in a gold brick gate. Necessary for the Girl Power achievement.Huntress-Found in a gold brick gate. Batgirl-Found in a gold brick gate. Supergirl-Found in a gold brick gate, a little to the east of the Gotham Zoo terminal. Needs all 250 gold bricks. Black Canary-Found in a gold brick gate. Necessary for the Girl Power achievement. She can stand in for the sonic blast of Batman's Bat Suit.Lex Luthor-Found by the Yacht Club terminal in north Gotham. The terminal requires Flash to activate. Required for some red/gold bricks and minikits (the only character who can deconstruct black Lego bricks).Joker-Found by the Ace Chemicals terminal in central Gotham. Like Lex, you need Flash for this terminal, and also like Lex he's needed for a few collectibles (the Joker boxes).
Harley Quinn-Found by the Gotham Funland Entrance terminal in north Gotham. She can stand in for some of Robin's Acrobat Suit abilities, though she can't use ball controls.Riddler-Found by the Wayne Tower terminal in south Gotham. Needed for a few collectibles (Riddler boxes).Two-Face-Found by the City Hall terminal in south Gotham. Third row:Penguin-Found by the Gotham Zoo terminal in central Gotham. His exploding penguin goons can stand in for Batman's power suit explosives, though only for targets on the ground.Poison Ivy-Found by the Botanical Gardens terminal in north Gotham. You'll need Robin or Aquaman to clean up the goo covering the gate, making her inaccessible for about half of the story. Catwoman-Found by the Police Station terminal in south Gotham. Bane-Found by the Gotham Beach terminal in central Gotham.Killer Croc-Found by the Waterworks terminal in central Gotham. Like Ivy, there's some goo to clean up, so he won't be accessible during the parts of the story where you're controlling Bats and Superman.Mr.
Freeze-Found by the Gotham Observatory terminal, on the far south island. His terminal requires Superman to activate. Can stand in for Robin's Ice Suit.Scarecrow-Found by the Amusement Mile terminal in north Gotham. Captain Boomerang-Found by the Arkham Asylum terminal in north Gotham. This is right next to you when you complete the Asylum levels in story (3 and 4), which is right when the terminals are activated, so likely he'll be the first boss you trigger on the map.Sinestro-By the Metro Station terminal in central Gotham. Beating him with Green Lantern gets you another achievement.Mad Hatter-Found at the Harbourside Theater in central Gotham.Fourth row:Killer Moth-Found at the Power Plant terminal in central Gotham.Man-Bat-Found at the Gotham Cathedral terminal in south Gotham.
