With 18 LEGO movie games released since 2005, the developers at TT Games are constantly finding new ways to spice up the standard stud-collecting adventures. The first gameplay trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens shows off the three they’ve come up with this time around. The game’s new Blaster Battles essentially add third-person cover-based shooting to the series, giving Poe Dameron a bit more to do in that initial firefight on Jakku from the opening of the movie. It looks like that initial escape from the First Order ship is going to be a bit more exciting as well. Dogfights add a bit of zest to space battles. Similar situations in previous games have been incredibly basic affairs, little more than on-rails turret affairs. These look much more involved. I’m most excited about the Multi-Builds feature, giving players multiple options when building bricks into problem-solving devices. The demonstration in the video is cute, though I worry the mechanic won’t be used all that much in the game proper.

The game features Batman and his sidekick Robin fighting their most dangerous foes, who have all broken out of Arkham Asylum and split into four groups to wreak havoc across Gotham City. The story is split into four scenarios, one for each group whose leaders hope to achieve certain goals: In each scenario, the player controls Batman and Robin as they fight through hordes of goons and henchmen to reach and defeat each villain, foil their plans, and send them back to Arkham. After clearing one story, the player is able to play it through the villains' perspective, controlling them and carrying out their individual plans up to before being stopped by the Dynamic Duo.

Once the player finds a hostage, a smile will appear by the level number. A frown means the player has not found the hostage or saved them. In order to do this, the player must find and defeat the thug who is holding the innocent civilian prisoner. After the player has freed all 40 hostages, it is possible to unlock the villain Hush in gameplay for 150,000 studs. After 100% completion, it is possible to unlock Ra's al Ghul for 50,000 studs. The last piece of data is also available, which reads 'The End?' There are two control settings: Casual and Virtual D-Pad -Forget the Casual Controls and go for the Virtual D-Pad. While only having to worry about tapping with one finger might sound nice, the game sometimes has trouble differentiating between when you want to move, build, or select your character. The Virtual D-Pad allows you to have separate buttons for those actions. Each button can have several jobs -Things like the character portrait and action buttons have multiple functions.
For example, to switch characters you have to tap the character portrait. To add a new party member you'll hold the character portrait until the wheel of heros shows up. Lastly, to change your suit/powers hold the power icon directly below your character portrait. Follow the green brick road -If you get stuck, remember that the green studs will show you the way to the next part of your mission. Hacking is as easy as connecting the dots -To hack a console you must match the colors by dragging from one color to the next. You’ll get more points if you can manage to light up all the spaces. Keep an eye out for Plastic Man spots -There are red bricks hidden throughout the story levels of the game, but you’ll need access to Plastic Man to get a lot of them. You can find Plastic Man on level 6: The Lantern Menace. The red bricks unlock cheats such as stud multipliers and disguises. You can buy four of them in the store, but you’ll have to find the rest on your own. There is a ton to unlock -Don't worry about finding every little secret on the first pass.
