In the only X-Men set of the 2012 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes so far, we get Wolverine’s Chopper Showdown (6866). This contains 201 pieces and retails for $19.99, which comes out to about $0.10/piece. The set includes three unnumbered bags, one instruction booklet, and the first comic book in the Super Heroes series. Once thing that stands out when looking at the box is the mountain and forest. I’m assuming the setting is in Canada where Wolverine resides. Like all of the other LEGO Super Heroes sets, the main attraction are the minifigures. In this set we get three awesome minifigs: Wolverine, Magneto, and Deadpool. Wolverine is in his classic yellow and blue costume. The yellow isn’t the yellow in the comics but more of a darker shade. He has a double-sided face and back printing. The detailing on the head is really good especially is mutton chops. His claws look good but it’s obvious he’s just holding them, especially when you’re looking at them from the side. The only thing that is missing from Wolverine is his mask.
The back printing does show the mask but having an actual piece would’ve been great. Magneto is in his red and purple suit and cape. He also has a double-sided face and back printing as well. He has bushy eyebrows much like in the comics. Magneto also has a round plate to resemble him flying on a metal plate. The only thing that seem to be missing is some purple printing for his boots. Deadpool looks absolutely amazing. All the detailing on him is very accurate down to his belt buckle. He does have back printing but no double-sided face because he’s wearing a mask. His accessories include two katanas and a gun. When his katanas are in his sword holder, he just looks freaking awesome. There’s really no downsides to him at all. The first part of the build is Wolverine’s chopper. Just a standard motorcycle. The main build of the set is Deadpool’s helicopter. The main colors on it is a darker shade of red, gray, and black to correspond to Deadpool’s colors and the best thing of it?
It didn’t take long to build but it does look cool. The front part of it does look a little big but then it is a military-ish helicopter. The top is able to open to put Deadpool in. In the middle of the heli is a big opening. Not sure what it’s for but you can put Magneto in there and take him along for the ride. On each side are missile launchers that rotate 45 degrees but I suggest not aiming them up or you’ll shoot down your own helicopter. Each missile launcher has two flick-fire missiles each. There is also a clip on the ends of the launchers for Deadpool’s katanas. The main rotor spins very well. The weight on it makes it spin for a while. From my tests of a full cranked spin, you can get about 10 seconds of spin from start to complete stop. One thing that is inaccurate is that there are two tail rotors. After doing some research, I couldn’t find a helicopter that had two tail rotors. I think that LEGO just wanted to make everything symmetrical. However, they do spin very well.
Overall, this is one of the better sets in the LEGO Super Heroes line, in my opinion. The three minifigures alone make the set worth it. Since this is the only set so far in the X-Men line, the prices for the minifigs are pretty high right now and the helicopter only adds more value to the set. The playability value is good as well. There’s not any major cons for the set which is great and at $20, I would definitely suggest picking it up. If you look through the comic, you’ll notice the new Spider-Man, Iron Fist, and Doctor Octopus minifigures in the preview of the Spider-Man’s Doc Ock Ambush (6873) set coming out later this year. Also on the back of the comic is another shot of the Spider-Man figures.
