LAN Cable Market Global Market Size, Share, Trends, Growth Factors, and Regional Outlook To 2027 | COVID-19 Effects

Market Snapshot

The global LAN cable market is expected to grow at 5.02% CAGR, witnessing substantial growth during the forecast period. The market was valued at USD 5,778.9 million in 2019; it is expected to reach USD 7,751.2 million by 2025.

A LAN (local area network) cable is one of the hardware components required in a network to provide communication over a local network by connecting peripheral devices to a router or modem switch, which further connects to a local server. These are copper cables that connect peripheral devices such as laptops and computers with routers, modems, and switches. Ethernet is the computer networking technology commonly used for local area networks (LAN) and is standardized as IEEE 802.3. Although LAN cables offer connectivity to a small area, several LANs can be connected to create a larger network. CAT 5, CAT 5E, CAT 6, CAT 6A, CAT 7, and CAT 8 cables are some of the commonly used LAN cables in a network. Based on the transfer speeds, bandwidth, and internet connectivity, the end user can choose among the cables mentioned above in a local network.

North America accounted for the largest market value of USD 1,917.9 million in 2019; the LAN Cable Market is expected to register a CAGR of 4.79% during the forecast period.

Global LAN Cable market, By Type (2019 Vs 2025)

Based on type, the market has been classified as CAT 6 Cable, CAT 6A Cable, CAT 7 Cable, CAT 5E Cable, and CAT 5 Cable. The CAT 6 cable segment accounted for the largest market share of 30.5% in 2018, with a market value of USD 1,692.0 million; it is expected to register a CAGR of 4.4% during the forecast period. The CAT 6A cable segment was the second-largest market in 2018, valued at USD 1,502.7 million; it is projected to exhibit a CAGR of 5.5%. However, the CAT 7 cable segment is expected to register the highest CAGR of 6.3%. Category 6 cable (CAT 6) is a twisted pair cable for Ethernet and other network physical layers, which are backward compatible with category 5/5e and category 3 cable standards. This category of cable is used as a cabling infrastructure for 10BASE-T (Ethernet), 100BASE-TX (fast Ethernet), 1000BASE-T (gigabit Ethernet), and 10GBASE-T (10-gigabit Ethernet, or 10 GbE) networks. CAT 6 cables are widely used compared to CAT 5 cables and are more robust, thick, and supports higher bandwidth. These cables are expensive and feature stricter specifications with regards to crosstalk and system noise. It offers performances of up to 250 MHz compared to 100 MHz for both CAT 5 and CAT 5e.

The key factors driving the growth of the global LAN cable market are the increasing number of data centers and the demand for high-speed data transfer. However, the use of 5G in conjunction with private LTE and the increasing demand for wireless products are restricting the growth of the global LAN cable market. The increasing infrastructure and construction projects are creating an opportunity for the growth of the market.
