Non-Aeron Office Chair Picks? Q - Okay, I may be in the minority here, but I find Herman Miller's Aeron Chair is the perfect example of form over function. Sure, it looks so corporate and minimalistic, but after months of awkwardness, leg-circulation cut-offs, and the annoying back support that feels like someone's elbow, I'm done. Seeing as you guys have covered tons of ergonomic chairs here before, I was wondering if you had any ideas on a better alternative? A - Overall, I have to say the Aeron isn't bad. But you definitely covered the bases on all its niggling annoyances. I'd also like to add that the arm adjustment drives me nuts as well. Knoll Life Chair ($499): While I haven't done an official review here on Unplggd, I've given the Knoll Life chair a demo and man was it the BOMB dot com. Clean, simple, well thought out and very comfortable. Hoping to grab one for Christmas myself if I can gather enough cash together to afford one. Note: Choosing a custom color fabric spikes up the price several hundred.

Herman Miller Mirra ($509): I also test drove the Herman Miller Mirra chair at my last hotel visit in Denver, CO. It's actually quite comfortable compared to the Aeron. Try it out at your local ergo-chair shop and let me know what you think! Available in a multitude of colors. Herman Miller Embody Chair:Maxwell over at Apartment Therapy New York was able to give us a hands-on review of this new type of the line model. We also were able to sit and test a model ourselves, and have to report back it is extremely comfortable...perhaps too comfortable, as one of the Apartment Therapy writers noted that it felt like the chair was "spitting her up"! Steelcase Leap: This is the task chair that we use at the home offices of Unplggd. Besides the chair up above, the Leap is possibly the most comfortable chair we've sat in, and is very capable of support over long periods of time without sore spots. The only mark against it is the slightly hard arm wrests (even a thin layer of gel would help, Steelcase).

I used this for about a year.. until I broke the arm.. my fault, really good chair. Freedom Chair by Humanscale - An Independent Review The head rest is adjustable, it's more of a neck rest anyway, it' snot behind your ears unless you slouch like me. At the time I had a pretty serious back problem going on, this was the only chair that relieved the pain so I could work. I would have probably gone with something cheaper if that weren't the case. I'm using an aeron now though. The Aeron never worked for me. I sat in one for a year and always seemed to have back pain. Some people swear by that chair, I hated it. Currently, I'm using a Steelcase Think: Think | The Think works better for me than the Aeron. And it is also cheaper than the Aeron. When I was last chair shopping, I really liked the Herman Miller Embody, but it was more than I wanted to spend at the time.

It may be one of my next upgrades though. Embody Chairs - Products - Herman Miller Go find some shops that carry a lot of different types of tasks chairs. With some chairs, you'll be able to tell right away if the chair might work for you. After that, it will take a couple weeks of sitting in one before you know if it is right. What everyone else is saying; 'try before you buy (or return)'. Everyone has their own posture and 'ergo issues' so find what works for you (if you can). I'm in the process of looking for one of the big yoga balls to improve my posture in the edit suite and help keep me awake, hahaha. I have an 'aeron-type' that is all mesh right now, which I like but I've really found that armrest adjustment in various ways is ultra-important. Think about how motionless you really are during the day. The key is to stretch, take breaks, blink, walk... you know the drill. I would LOVE to be able to have one of the fully adjustable DESK workstations because sitting down all day, literally, is killing us.

Just turned 40 and starting to realize things aren't what they used to feel like anymore so best to address it now. Good luck in your ergo seating solution and keep us all posted. I think this is a 'healthy' thread (pun intended); hope it keeps going. Originally Posted by Jesse Peterson I used this for about a year.. If you still have it, call them. I'm very picky about chairs. I really like the Freedom chair but it has no lumbar support. The armrests aren't independently adjustable and are at a fixed width. The armrests are my favorite thing about the Aeron - I change the angle throughout the day, depending on my task. I also like Steelcase chairs. You really have to try them out for yourself, everyone has their own needs. If I could get the build of a Steelcase with the arms of an Aeron and the seat from the Freedom, I'd be set

The Leap chair from Steelcase Steelcase Leap Chair - Buy Direct from Manufacturer | Steelcase Store We use them in our video studio and office. The Human Scale chair Freedom Task Chair with Headrest | Ergonomic Seating from Humanscale (I've had mine for years) The Body Built Chair for those of us that are "over sized" either in height or girth Big and Tall Desk Chairs, Big and Tall Ergonomic Office Chairs We have four of these in our mastering studio. I love them and so do our clients. Except for the Leap chairs these were all bought used from different suppliers at a very reduced price. Best of luck and do "try before you buy" as chairs are as individual as the people sitting in them...good words of advice from my friendly office supply salesman. I recently recommended this: Artichair The best chair I've ever had – and to find this one took me about 40 tests with other (expensive and well-regarded) chairs! It's like comparing an M49 to a U87 I might say...

Anyone tried the new Herman Miller Aeron Remastered yet? Or have other recommendations for small/light body types? Have cash for a chair and I'm tired of sitting on a $15 Costco folding chair or piano bench ! omg look at these Ergonomic Chairs and Stools | I've been using a Varier Move stool for a few years after being introduced to it in a studio I worked in many moons ago. At the time it felt uncomfortable as I think my posture wasn't great and at the time I needed to slouch in something.... cue many years of back pain.... However about 5 years ago I got one for my studio and now swear by it. It has changed my posture incredibly. Back pain and problems have pretty much disappeared. I have had an Aeron for a long time but only use it for a couple of hours a day, as I find the Move stool the most comfortable and helps keep me in a good posture. The ergonomic shop people said to use it for about 5 hours a day, however I find myself on it most of the day as it just feels right.

It's also great for a studio where you need to reach around for things quite a bit. They ain't cheap but it's been worth every penny Move_Black_STE999-Black_lacquered_Ash / Variations Move / Move™ / Movement Chairs / Home - Varier Furniture - Movement chairs This one PhantomFocus seems to be getting a lot of positive reviews. I'm using an aeron now though. Been using this chair for around 6 months now, prefer it over the Aeron. Great design on the arms, as they swivel/tilt down and go down level with the seat in one easy action... Allows you to play guitar etc. Also i like that you just push back and the chair adjusts to your position. I can see that you may need to place your hands at the back of the arms and not the front, to take ones weight when re-sitting or just getting comfortable. Placing your hands at the front of the arms, is like extending the fulcrum and increases the pressure. Depends on your strength and weight i suppose. I've used Aeron chairs for years but I always found them to be uncomfortable for really long sessions.

Something about the seat depth and the hard plastic edge where your legs fall over the front. My current Aeron was getting long in the tooth so I embarked on finding a replacement. I tested pretty much every fancy task chair on the market: Freedom, Leap, Think, Gesture, newer Aeron's, etc... Then I found this: https://www.autonomous.ai/office-chair It has a combination of features from a bunch of the above mentioned chairs but most importantly for me it has highly adjustable arm rests and a seat pan depth adjustment. It's def. more comfortable and adjustable then any Aeron I've owned. The build quality is very good but a step down from something like a Steelecase product (more plastic parts vs metal). at $249-$299 with a free 30 day in home trial it's a no brainer. I also came across this in my travels: PhantomFocus I never got a chance to demo it but it looks promising. /Ergohuman-Swi.../dp/B002LK1YNO Raynor Ergohuman Chair /Ergohuman-Swi.../dp/B002LK1YNO Raynor Ergohuman Chair Those are very comfortable chairs.
