Division Street in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, which has operated since 1906. The recent change in ownership in 2011 and complete renovation of the facility now provides for all original services and more. the facility was taken with understanding of all traditional values and current spa amenities. a full bar, restaurant, tanning, scrub and other salon services. The most popular feature at Chicago Bath House is the traditional Russian Banya, Schvitz, or hot room. Each of these rooms have a brick or granite ovens in which boulders, approximately the size of watermelons, are heated to extreme temperatures by gas jets;

hot water is then thrown on the rocks by the customers as desired. When this happens, the water instantly evaporates, creating steam inside the oven and heating the brick enclosure, thereby raising the air temperature in the room. This method provides a much dryer heat than common steam rooms, but not as dry as traditional Finnish saunas. The bathers sit or lay on three-level tiered cedar benches, which allow for dramatically different temperatures at the various heights. Cold water is provided by taps located under the benches. When overwhelmed by the heat, a bather may dump a bucket of frigid water over his head while still in the hot room, or may step outside to use the cold pool. Several attendants are usually on hand in the hot rooms to give a plaitza or "rub" a scrubbing with a handheld birch broom or a bundle of leafy oak twigs. The customer receiving this will lay naked on a sheet, usually with a towel over his face, and be scrubbed thoroughly, front and back, then doused with cold water to remove the soap.

After spending time in the lower level of the bath house, customers are invited to try traditional Russian cuisine. All customers receive special attention in our resort style atmosphere. Our menu is designed to help celebrate birthday parties, gatherings and other events with family style dinners. Chicago Bath House is the oldest and only traditional bathhouse remaining in Chicago, and one of only a handful in the United States. Whirlpool and Jacuzzi Bath Blog 4 Simple Space-Saving Tips to Help Design Your New Bathroom Get a Head Start on Your 2017 Spring Cleaning with These Top Tips Under the Hood: How Exactly Does a Whirlpool Bath Work? The Truth About Cold Showers: Are They Really Good for You? You should drain and clean your hot tub every 3 to 4 months (or more if it’s used often). Think of it as a large bath tub. Bath tubs need to be drained and we know why: chemical build-up, body oils, and just general “funk” can accumulate in your hot tub water. Many hot tub owners try to avoid draining as much as possible, as this is the biggest maintenance item that you will need to do over and above the chemical maintenance of the water.

This is especially true during the winter months, when the draining process is the most inconvenient. In order to minimize the amount of work and time that you need to put into your hot tub, you should consider draining every 3 to 4 months. This will minimize your maintenance workload but also limit the amount of chemicals that you are being exposed to. Keeping your water longer than this, regardless of how clear the water looks, and regardless of what the specialty products that you add to your water say, exposes you to unhealthy and unnecessary amounts of harmful chemicals. The most harmful of the chemicals you are exposed to are the USED sanitizers in your water. Whenever your chlorine or bromine comes in contact a piece of ammonia or nitrogen, it changes into a stable form of sanitizer that is no longer able to kill bacteria. These used “pieces” of sanitizer are called chloramines and are often the source of chemical smell from your water. Before you begin the process of draining the water from the hot tub, you absolutely must run a line flush product through the tub.

Over 99% of the bacteria in your hot tub does not live suspended in the water or stuck to the shell. The vast majority of bacteria lives inside the plumbing lines under a layer of sticky tar like substance called biofilm. This biofilm is both a food source as well as a layer of mechanical protection that prevents the chemical sanitizers in your system from reaching the bacteria. If you simply drain and fill the tub then you will transfer almost all of the old bacteria directly into the new water. This persistent biofilm can cause bacterial blooms that can leave you red and itchy, or with folliculitis in more severe cases, even in fresh water simply because the biofilms are leeching bacteria. In order to remove biofilms you must use a line flush product in the old water before you begin the draining process. The first thing that you would do on most hot tubs would be to remove the filter since you are not looking to filter the water but instead suspend the biofilms in the water and then drain them away.

You would then add a line flush product to your water as per the manufacturer directions for the product that you are using. Essentially this cleaner will be added to the old water and you will circulate the water for anywhere from 20 minutes up to 4 hours depending on the type of product that you are working with. You would then drain the hot tub as per normal either using the built in drain or a sump pump to remove the water. When you circulate a pipe flush in a hot tub that has not been maintained properly, or one that has a biofilm buildup, the results are almost shocking. It is not uncommon to develop a 4″ thick layer of brown/black foam covering the surface of the water as the long established bacteria pull away from the plumbing lines. If you remember to flush the lines on your hot tub every time that you drain it then you can avoid this biofilm buildup. Once the water is removed from the hot tub you can wipe the interior surface with four parts water to one part white vinegar to clean the surfaces.
